A Taxi driving game seemed like a really boring idea, but then Sega had the idea and turned their madcap taxi title, called Crazy Taxi, into something quite brilliant. So, Hit Maker, the creators of Crazy Taxi (they're part of Sega) decided to take it one step further, adding 14 wheels to their main machine and release Eighteen Wheeler, American Pro trucker. Why did they do this? Well, it was released in the arcades and naturally they wanted to bring it the home console market, get them as much money and respect as possible, but essentially it's a brilliant fun arcade game - you may have seen it taking up most of the space, there's one in Alton ... If you ever fancied yourself as a long haul truck driver, this game might be of interest to you. Mind you, if you liked Crazy Taxi or other Sega racing games then you should take 18 Wheeler out for a spin. The game gives you control of a huge truck, racing from one point on the American map to another to try to deliver your haulage to its destination before your rivals do. On the way you will come across other traffic that can slow you down, as well as some bonus cars that can increase your time and the other trucks that will do anything to get to the destination before you, including smashing against you and causing you to smash through houses and into other ... Another Naomi game receives the Dreamcast treatment but this one is different from the others..... In the arcade 18 wheeler was an immensely enjoyable game with its huge wheel and massive screen but the icing on the cake was without doubt the ability to use the horn and instigate a roar like no other and truly become the king of the road. Not to mention the arcade game had some rather nice graphics, sound effects and good playability. To a certain extent the Dreamcast version can be called a successful arcade port but it has one major problem. It's longevity. In an arcade the player only expects 5 minutes of thrills but at home we expect much much ... Read the complete review

You’re probably aware that 18 wheeler isn’t actually available over here yet so today’s review is based on the Japanese import version. If you ever saw/played this game in the arcade then you’ll know what it’s all about. Get yourself in a truck, choose a trailer and get from A to B ahead of your rival. In the arcade at £1 a time that sounds like a pretty fair concept but does this translate well to the Dreamcast console? Read on my friend....... Eighteen wheeler is a truck driving game. You choose one of a selection of trucks/drivers all of which have slightly different characteristics. ... Read the complete review

I've been playing this one a lot in my local arcade after playing through Crazy Taxi, so I thought that the Dreamcast improt would be a worth while purchase saving me arcade £1's!! While the game is a fair recreation of the arcade game, I can't help thinking that there is actually no depth at all to it and that the gaming is over when you've completed it! With Crazy Taxi, the arcade thrill was there, but you were also treated to lots of mini Crazy Box style challenges which made the game have a greater last. 18 Wheeler is definitely best left in the arcade - its meant for the arcades, and shouldn't have been released on Dreamcast.
