4 Wheel Thunder (DC) Dreamcast Game

... look good, but the sky just doesn’t seem to fit right, looks very odd. You can also race smaller four-wheel drive cars, which look like buggies. The game plays very well indeed, with a good control system – the cars handle well, and the emphasis being on speed, picking up power ups, much like in games of Hydro Thunder, and of course the aim is to win. Frame Rate is fantastic – a little too fast at times, as one second’s lost concentration will result in a crash. You can play one player in ...more

4 Wheel Thunder (DC): ARGH THE NOISE (335 words)

Never before have I hated a racing game so much as this, and yet it does have some positive elements, it got great reviews from the Dreamcast magazines, but I have to disagree with their scores - 4 wheel Thunder is an awful game, to be honest it's practically impossible to complete, the 'music' is atrocious and the gameplay is flawed - the power up style of play, like the Hydro Thunder game, it's just not the way to have racing games these days. 4 wheel thunder is so noisy, it will leave a ringing in your ears and you'll never want to play it again = nothing is such a din!! It's all so wrong - the proportions, the speed - you're going ...  Read the complete review

The game that has you Storming (off) (346 words)

4 Wheel Thunder is a racing game that has you driving massive monster trucks and smaller 4wd cars around dusty tracks and mud filled circuits as well as a few indoor arenas. It's pretty much a normal racing game, but with the addition of picking up turbo bonuses which you can use at will to give you a speed boost. You'll certainly need all the turbos you can get though, this game is not just tough, it's virtually impossible at times. I really believe that the reason it's called 4 wheel Thunder is that you will certainly storm off after the first few games on this, probably eminating much blue language while you are doing so. Give it a chance ...  Read the complete review

4 Wheel Thunder (DC): Impossible for me to like. (260 words)

4 Wheel Thunder is the most frustrating game I have ever had the unpleasant misfortune of owning. It may well LOOK quite nice, and may well have been given 8/10 by 2 leading Dreamcast magazines, but if the game has a rubbish concept and is a Dog to play then why bother. The game boasts that over 60 cars are available, but here's the fun part - you have to access them by winning every race in the game which is absolutely impossible, and then even if you finish 2nd out of 12 the annoying game voice shouts abusively at you 'YOU LOSE'. In my opinion it's the game that loses, I've had it for a week now and in my view the game sucks. ...  Read the complete review

Frustrating fun (159 words)

This is certainly one of the best DC racers, and is fast and fun. It’s a buggy title, where you get to drive big funny looking trucks with big funny looking wheels. There are a lot of different game modes to choose from which helps the longevity of the game. It is rather similar to it’s sister game, Hydro Thunder (the Boosts, the shortcuts etc.), and I wouldn’t recommend getting both, however if you don’t have a DC racer already then I would recommend either, with this title possibly having the edge due to better level design and a little more variation. While this doesn’t put the likes of V-Rally 2 to shame it is a lot of fun, especially in  Read the complete review

4 Wheel Thunder (DC): Four Wheel Frustration (159 words)

After enjoying the teeth gnashingly tricky Hydro Thunder last year, I read in some game magazine that "Four Wheel Thunder", a sort of sequel, had eased up on the difficulty level. Hooray! I thought. Unfortunately this was a porky. This game is very, very tough. For your money you get lovely 60fps visuals, lush courses and blistering speed throughout. As in Hydro Thunder, you must collect the 4-second and 9-second booster pills to get anywhere at all. The racing is a constant 'catch-em-up' (a la Ridge Racer); this is where I've come a little unstuck. Powering around these courses in my souped-up oversized truck at breakneck speeds (barely making a ..  Read the complete review
