Wandering around a game store I spotted a copy of Capcom vs SNK for the price of £10 and quite wisely snapped it up. Anyone who knows anything about 2D fighters knows that Capcom (Street Fighter) and SNK (King of Fighters, Samurai Shodown) are the "controllers" of this genre. Moving on...

Let me just say you'll be mildly impressed by the character select screen. Not the usual 10-20, I mean MANY fighters. Every popular character you can think of is there, from Ryu to Nakoruru, all playable and ready for some one-on-one (ooer) action.

Graphically, no 2D fighter even comes close to Capcom vs SNK. High resolution sprites dancing around at 60fps with no slowdown whatsoever and tiny little effects that will impress you, such as the automatic doors on the arcade level and the 80's videogame sequence on the traffic accident level.

The buttons seem to be nudged more towards Capcom's "many buttons to press" system, instead of the simple SNK 4 button system which some gamers (such as me) prefer. After I got used to the controls, though, I was very impressed with the game overall. The presentation, the depth, the gameplay. To explore this game fully would take months, if not years.

I say this to anyone, even people who don't usually like 2D fighters - buy it. You won't be disappointed.
