Advantages: New features, New vehicles, New city
Disadvantages: Not enough change, Not enough new imagination
The original Crazy Taxi became the most played game in my house when I first got a dreamcast, we loved the fast action, fun characters, and the challenge was on to get the most passengers, and the most cash! I live in a house very close to my place of work, and colleagues regularly come round - Crazy Taxi quickly became our principle occupation! I was really excited when Crazy Taxi 2 was finally released, however I have not been as pleased with it as I could have been. There are some new features - such as the ability of the car to jump, two completely new places to drive around, and the possibility of picking up multiple passengers, but I think that more imagination could have gone into this on behalf of the makers. The gameplay is basically exactly the same, it has not got any more complex or challenging, except for the two possible driving locations. The 'Crazy Pyramid' feature is good, a whole new set of challenges to replace to former 'Crazy Box' option - and with this you have to complete each level of the pyramid to move onto the next, with the added incentive of rewards upon completion - city maps, and more excitingly, different vehicle options. This is one of the best parts I feel, that once you have reached a level of driving skill with a particular driver, you can then try a different vehicle, namely a pushbike pulling a 'people carrier', or pushing a pram in which your passengers ride! The game is much more challenging when you have mastered the crazy dash and crazy drift manouveres, leading to greater speeds, and more excitement! In all, a good game, definitely very playable, and the addictability is high - but I expected more.
