Advantages: Very fun

Disadvantages: Not much to it

The Dreamcast was a true gaming tragedy - it had so many fantastic games, such as Crazy Taxi, but still floundered, and thus remains considered "too ahead of its time". That said, Crazy Taxi is a devilishly simple game that was a considerable hit upon its release, and has seen sequels released on the PS2, GameCube, and Xbox.

The idea of a taxi driving sim might not sound like the most invigorating thing possible, but trust me - this one throws out the rule book, making this a frenzied, visually impressive, off the wall racing game, where your goal is simply to pick up and drop off fares within the allotted time. Simple enough? Well, there's enough obstacles and other challenges that mean it's not as easy as you'd think.

Visually, the game's graphics are very impressive, and still hold up rather well today - there's a good level of detail on the characters, and although the style is rather cartoony, that isn't just a cheap way of covering for a lack of care. The textures have a beautiful shine, and the map is very well detailed.

Although there's not much to it, this is an insanely addictive game that'll keep you playing for hours - much of the key to it is simply how easy to pick up, and therefore difficult to master, the game is. The casual gamer will get into it in mere seconds, but to become a Crazy Taxi master is not easy!

Aside from the single player offering, there is also an excellent multiplayer component, where you and a friend can compete to see who can pick up and drop off the most fares within the allotted time, and also to see who can make the most money. It adds considerable depth to the game, and ensures that you won't get bored with it.

Crazy Taxi is a fun and exciting game that's got a superb soundtrack (including Bad Religion and The Offspring), a unique, crazy concept, and despite its simplicity, will keep you coming back for more!

Summary: Simple but simply great!
