Advantages: Better than other consoles on the current market
Disadvantages: Looks very poor compared to consoles coming out 6 months after
I must admit after seeing the SEGA Dreamcast it makes all the other consoles on the market look very poor indeed, especially the Playstation. It has very ergonomic control pad with the revolutionary analogue control stick (created by Nintendo I must add), has a fast CD ROM drive, has great graphics and sound and a good selection of games. But there’s one question, Haven’t we seen all this before with the Sega Saturn? When the Saturn came out, it was before the Playstation and the N64 and compared to the Super Nintendo and the Mega Drive looked great. 3d games off CD’s and some great games were created e.g. a reincarnation of Sonic also games like Daytona, Sega rally and virtua fighter. But as soon as the superior playstation came out it became old technology. This is what I feel will happen to the Dreamcast, while it has brilliant graphics at a high frame rate, good sound and internet support, I just feel that after the Playstation 2 Game-cube and X-Box are released it will become old hat. The public will want the newest technology on the block, especially kids; e.g. the Playstaion 2 has all the Dreamcast has to offer but can also offer DVD playback. Sega are in for a testing time for the Dreamcast.

Dave Robinson - 04/11/00 I'd just like to say I think the DC is the best console EVER, it has original, unique games with incredible graphics and sound (better than the PS2 as it can't do anti-aliasing). It is usually the console with the oldest technology that wins, the best example of this is the Nintendo Game Boy. It was launched in 1989 and is going very strong today (mainly thanks to Pokemon). In the early 90s it beat the technologically superior, COLOUR (remember the GB was Black + White until about 1997) Sega Game Gear and Atari Lynx. Then this year and last year it beat the colour 16-bit SNK Neo Geo Pocket, which was at least twice as powerful and had many more quality games than it. Also, the NES beat the Sega Master System (although that was close in the UK), the Mega Drive beat the SNES, and more recently, the PS beat the N64 and Saturn (the Saturn WAS more powerful than the PS as it had dual CPUs, a la PS2, the problem was that it was murder to develop for, a la PS2). So following this pattern, the DC will beat the PS2, X-Box and GameCube! |
