Advantages: Rapid, arcade style gameplay

Gauntlet Legends is one of those games which is bound to split opinion. Other reviewers have complained it is boring and one dimensional, but for me, that is probably a generational difference of opinion.

I loved this game. Yes it is one dimensional as you run around a variety of locations killing monsters. I use the term 'variety' in it's old skool sense, where a field, a graveyard and a pirate ship are not considered hackneyed and stereotypical.

There are hundreds of monsters to kill, complete with their generators. You have to get the food, you have to scare off Death with your magic, you have to kill big bosses and collect keys. In essence, this is arcade gaming in the home, somthing they do not do very often these days unfortunately.

The game is repetitive, especially in single player, yet get up to three other friends playing with you, and this game is amazing. You will be transported back to your childhood, arguing over just who did shoot the magic potion instead of collecting it, and asking each other why there is no food left for you.

Considering the amount of distance that four people can put between themselves, the camera copes pretty well, but inevitably, people will sometimes get stuck behind a piece of a scenery and you will have to backtrack to get them, but that is all part of the games charm.

If you are over 25, have a few friends who still play games and like your game without twenty minute cut scenes every five minutes, then this game is for you.

Summary: Its great with a mate!
