Advantages: Fast, Good Animation, Good Sound Effects

Disadvantages: Bad Music, Limited Fun, Repetetive

Marvel VS Capcom 2 has been around in the arcade for a long period of time now and it is starting to gain the well-deserved respect it needs. It is the sequel to the less popular Marvel VS Capcom, which is available on most platforms. There have been many different stages of development in this series. It started off with just the Marvel series and then progressed into Marvel Vs Street Fighter. Finally there is now Marvel VS Capcom 2, which takes almost everything combined in all the past games and puts it onto one disk on the Dreamcast.

You have around 50 characters, most of which are not available too you unless you unlock them after playing. You will find all your favourites from the Capcom games and Marvel characters. Pretty much everyone has been included in this game. The game is based upon a tag team battle in which you must select three of your favourite characters in the order you want them to fight in. You use each other to win the battle as you combine your special finishes into one super combo.

The graphics in the game are excellent, the animation is perfect and they have used the same style as they did in the previous Street Fighter and the Marvel games. What makes the graphics look even better is when you perform your super combo, you see many different effects and colours in the background and they are delightful to look at. The amount of detail, which is used, on each individual character is very good, it makes you feel as if you are part of a cartoon. The Marvel characters look very well animated but some of the Capcom characters don?t look as good as they have previously and it sometimes spoils the effect of the game.

The sound is the best part about the game, all the voice acting is the same as it was in the previous versions and the Marvel characters do actually sound like they do in the cartoon!! (Unlike X-Men Mutant Academy) All the Capcom characters remain the same as in previous versions and they all appear to be in
there. Some characters that we see for the first time are Gill from Resident Evil and Mega Man. The background music does NOT suit this game much as it is more of a Jazzy sound than the predecessors, which would be more suitable for this game; instead it just makes you feel more relaxed and may distract you.

The game play for this game is amazing, the speed at which all the characters move is great and the game is very fast paced. If you have played any of the newer Street Fighter games you will know how fast they play and this is probably the fastest. You build up your energy bar until you can perform the Super Combos by holding the two back triggers (The Super Combos are one of the most important factors of this game, unlike the other games). The Super Combos are the best part of this game as when you perform them at the highest level the computer does not stand much of a chance.

There are not that many modes to choose from in this game, unlike Street Fighter Alpha 3, which offers a lot, but you only, have the basics in Marvel VS Capcom. These are the modes:

. Arcade
. Survival
. VS
. Practice

This may not seem like enough but you don?t really need much more for this game. After you have played the Arcade Mode a few times you will complete the game. This isn?t much fun but they have made a shop mode which has made the game last a lot longer. Basically you start off with around 20 characters and you must unlock the remaining 30 characters by playing the modes. You receive more points for the more time you spend on the game therefore you have to play this game to enjoy the full features.

In the shop you can buy new characters, new character costumes and new stages. These all range in price and it will take you a good ten hours to get all the characters from the shop mode. This can get very frustrating however because you may not have enough points to buy the character you want and then he may not appear for a
long time.

The game is fairly difficult at first to get used too and the end boss will be very hard to beat. However once you begin to understand how the special combos work you will understand how to beat your opponents. You will find characters that you like the most and stick with them, this game takes around an hour or so to get used to but after then its quite simple.

Once you have fully completed the game then you will likely get board of it quickly, this is the kind of game that once you have finished with you come back to it again in a month and when you do you will wonder why you went off it so quickly.

It is a good game but the there are a few things that could have made this game better. Namely the music, more modes and some multiplayer modes, for example co-op modes and team battle. This game is worth a rental if you have not played the predecessor if not you will love it because it is 10 times better. More characters, more fun and more super combos.

The best capcom game made to date.
