Advantages: Wide variety of tricks, Many famous bikers,
Disadvantages: Plays exactly like Tony Hawks in every possible way
Okay, I will now begin my review on Tony Hawks Pro Sk.... Oh yes, sorry this is my review on Matt Hoffmans Pro BMX. Mind you, this mistake isn't so hard to make, as both games are so similair. The only changes made to this game from Tony Hawks is the ones where changes were completely unavoidable. Of course I am talking about the change from 4 wheels to two, from a plank of wood to a frame, and the difference in the riders. There are also different levels. But here is where the changes stop. The level designs are almost indentical, not in looks obviously, but in the way they are designed, it is hard to explain, but if you play the game you will understand what I mean. The career mode is also identical. Yet again, each level requires you to do a certain amount of tasks to get Magazine Covers (They at least had the decency to change that from tapes) to progress to the next level. However, yet again the way you collect the covers goes unchanged. One is hidden in a secret location, one is found by getting a good score, another by an excellent score, and another by collecting lots of different letters to spell out t-r-i-c-k. Then you have to do exactly the same on the next level, and the next, and the next and so on and so on. Tricks are also performed in the same way, holding down A makes you go faster and prepare to jump, Y to grind, X performs kick tricks and B grabs. However, I'm sure there are many people which view this lack of change as a good thing, If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I hear you cry. But personally I feel Tony Hawks 2 was far too similair to 1 for my liking, and the question I ask is: "How long can they milk this design and engine for?" Mind you, as I've said before this is my opinion. Many people will go the other way and say the game is great, but this is what DooYoo is all about isn't it, opinions?

- 22/07/01 Good op.
One thing, this game to the best of my knowledge wasn't coded by Neversoft at all, and thus doesn't use the same engine as THPS2. |
