Rating:

Advantages: Addictive, brings original elements to a tired genre, party gaming fodder forever

Disadvantages: ultimately limited, but then again what isn't?

The first Powerstone was hugely overrated, and although it was a truly brilliant game for a while, it soon lost it's novelty, and like most beat 'em ups became highly repetitive and, ultimately, boring. Powerstone 2, on the other hand, is consistently brilliant- and although lots of the time you won't know what's going on, you'll be having a hell of a good time trying to figure it out...
When you do get the hang of it, the adventure mode in which you can collect new items is brilliant, and the mixing/gathering system for items is original AND highly compulsive. And as you’ll know if you’re either really impatient or psychic, I didn’t give a rating to the difficulty. This is because the difficulty level can be perfectly tailored for anyone’s needs, although you get more money for doing it on the harder levels, which makes it all the more tempting to practice. The four player mode is ridiculously frantic and fun, and undoubtedly PS2 has secured its place in party gaming on the DC, which in such a highly contested market is praise indeed. Brilliant.
