Advantages: High replay value, plenty of extra features.
Disadvantages: Too short, dialogue a bit dodgy.
No imitations, this series of games is what got the ball rolling for survival horror on the Playstation and what a good move that was. Take a classic zombie film, add a plot with as much twists as possible, identify the heroes and there you have a classic game. Much has improved since the first Resident Evil, with better graphics, an updated control system and a slight improvement in the script translation. If you are familiar with the 'master of unlocking' line from the original game, you'll know what I mean. This game is better thought out than the first two with some clever additions. You play a character from the first game, Jill Valentine, who goes to explore Racoon City to uncover the secret of the zombie crisis going on at the fault of Umbrella. The first thing that set this game apart from the previous two are that the first half of the game is set 24 hours BEFORE Resident Evil 2, the second half of the game 24 hours AFTER Resident Evil 2. Am I making sense? In other words, theres reference to the last game, making it seem more complete. The second and best thing is the introduction of Nemesis, a supposedly indestructable hideous monster who is on your tail and is there to kill you. Now, the first 2 games are not what I would call scary, but Nemesis kept me on edge throughout the game. You never know when he'll show up and after chasing you for a bit, he mysteriously disappears. The third and final improvement is, mainly when you get caught by Nemesis, you are given two actions to choose from in a variety of scenarios. This is a great addition as it alters some parts of the game to give it a good replay value. When you finish the game, you unlock a mini-game called Mercenaries (basically a shoot-em-up) where you can earn cash to spend on decent weapons to use in the full game! Alas, once again the game doesn't take long to complete but the extra features and mini-g
ame partially compensate for this. Now all I've gotta do is wait for the next sequel...
