San Francisco Rush 2049 (DC)

Description: This is a futuristic racing game developed and published by Midway Games Inc.

I did not immediately find any obvious use for stunt performance but the results are quite aesthetically pleasing. What I did find quite fun about this game are the frequent shortcuts, detours and other directions which a player can take on any given track. These hidden journeys almost seem critical to the gameplay experience as I found most detours to offer a vi...more

"San Francisco Rush 2049" is a video game which was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 by Midway. It is a racing title based on a freestanding arcade cabinet system of the same name. In the United States, the game received a rating of "E" which deemed it appropriate for all ages. San Francisco Rush has been a long standing series in racing games. It has been characterized by high speed, action packed ventures with an added sense of realism. 2049 is the third installment in the series and does not fail to uphold what is to be expected by the player. San Francisco Rush 2049 takes place in a futuristic urban setting and as with any racing ...  Read the complete review

Pros: Exciting two-player mode, Fun stunt driving and fast racing Cons: The stunt landing can be tricky, and points are often arbitrary The Bottom Line: Buy this game for it's stunts, multiplayer fighting and racing challenge. Recommended: Yes After playing the demo (endlessly)in mid 2000, I went to the store and reserved my copy. That was in September 2000, and I'm still playing this game. The concept is this: It's San Francisco, it's the year 2049, and for some reason I've yet to determine, cars have retractable wings but no airborne propulsion system. There are several ways in which to play this game. The first ...  Read the complete review

Although racing has never been my favourite genre, after buying a Dreamcast it soon rose to the top of my list. Why? Well, with great titles like Mag Force Racing and Ferrari 355 Challenge hanging about, there was no competition! Well, perhaps that's going a bit too far, but where would we all be without racers? The whole point of a racing game is to allow the player to feel as if they are actually there, giving them an element of competition and keeping them alive at the same time! Let's face it, it's not the safest thing in the world to be traveling in a Ferrari at 200mph down the middle of a busy motorway, is it? Well, if there's one type of ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review San Francisco Rush 2049 (DC): Fast, but... (116 words)

The game doesn't take itself too seriously - in a way it's a cross between Need For speed and 4 Wheel Thunder - the graphics are fine - but there is some noticable glitches - the frame rate doesn't seem to be too great, and the car sounds? Well the engine sounds stupid - not at all realistic, but I guess you could always turn the sound off. I don't know whether this is a Dreamcast exclusive - I hope it's a ported version - as the game really isn't that great. Play it for yourself - for me, there are plenty of better racing games about. Still, it is worth a look - as you may like it. ...  Read the complete review
