Advantages: QTE, Awesome Graphics, The Changing weather

Disadvantages: None really,. unless you people can tell me some

Shenmue has certainly tested the Dreamcast’s capability and has proved to be the best game that has been released to the DC.
When I first heard about this game in a DC magazine I thought it looked really good and I couldn’t wait to buy it. I rushed home and stated playing it and I can firmly say that I wasn’t disappointed with the graphics; you could say I was bowled over.
As well as getting the game on three disks you get an extra disk which tells you more about the characters about QTE’s, the time, the weather and even includes movies of the different sections of the game.

In the game you are a character who goes by the name of Ryo Hazuki. You start the game with a movie introduction, which gives you a brief idea of what to expect in the game.
The introduction is about the phoenix mirror. A man called Lan Di went to see Ryo’s dad, Iwao and because he wouldn’t tell him where the mirror was, Lan Di decides to show off his real strength by doing a few moves on Iwao.
This was a big mistake for Iwao as he is now so beaten up that he tells Lan Di where the mirror is. After all of that Ryo’s dad was so beaten up that he dies in the dojo.
The game takes off from this point, where Ryo starts his adventure to get back the phoenix mirror. To find out the truth about what happened to his dad, Ryo must do certain things that will give him clues to where he must go next.
Along the adventure you have to do certain tasks to make sure you can proceed with the game. If you don’t do some of these things then you might miss out on some really important information.
You set off to explore your town and you can go into the shop and buy whatever you want. You can also buy cassettes which you can listen to on your player.
Pretty cool! However you will have to buy certain things that will help you later on in the game. Like scrolls that will help you to produce new moves.
After you have lo
oked around Yamanose you can then go into the town where you can go into pubs, fortunetellers and jean shop.
As well as the shops in Sakuragaoka, there are a few parks where you can do a few moves. If you get fed up with that then you can go in the arcade, where you can play darts, motor bike racing and a few QTE games. What’s really good about this is that the makers have produced real arcade graphics.
Some times in the game you may come across a QTE title. This is a quick time event which tests how fast your reaction is.
For example the first QTE is to catch a ball and to do this you must press A, however if you don’t then you will have to do it again until you do. I think that things like this make the game much better as you don’t expect it.
As the story continues Ryo has a few dreams where a girl appears and in another it’s about the day his father died.
I think that these dreams help the player to get an inside view of what it’s like to be Ryo.
As the story goes on you will end up leaving the town of Sakuragaoka and you will end up getting a job in the harbor, lifting crates.
This is yet another thing which makes the game extra good. You can have hours of fun trying to control the forklift.
As you continue to do you job you still have time to gather clues and you find out that Lan Di is going on a boat to Hong Kong.
You see the chance and you end up getting a ticket to Hong Kong. But you don’t get away that easily you still have to finish off Lan Di’s gang called The Mad Angels.
This is resolved in a 70 men battle where you have to kill them all to get to the last stage of the game.
I have to say that I thought that this was the hardest part of the game and it took me two go to complete it. Though what do you expect they cant make it easy.
After you have done this, the game is then almost complete but you still have one more QTE to handle.
Over all I thought
this game was better than I had expected.
I thought the graphics were superb and when it snows well it looks so real. It has so many things that you can do.
I think the best part of the game is that you are free to do what you want to do and don’t necessarily have to go down the same route that the makers have done.
What I also liked about this game is that you can talk to anyone you want; go where you want when you want.
Although I did think that it was important to practice your moves as often as possible as this would help with your battles and it is a good idea to buy as many of the scrolls as you can.
I think that this game is definitely worth its money and for four disks you do get your money’s worth.

I gave it a SU rating, as it was a bit confused in places. But, worst of all, you gave massive plot spoilers!

After anyone read this, they wouldn't *need* to buy the game, as they´d already know what happens in it!
