Instead, you use the D-Pad/analogue stick to move the scope crosshair into position, then bring up the scope, and pull the trigger - simple as that. Of course, it's a lot harder to master than you might expect, and requires a steady hand and absolutely pinpoint accuracy. Although a simple game, there is a lot of fun to be had - most missions revolve around protection a high-level target or ...more

Premium Review Silent Scope (DC): Snipe 'em up (357 words)

Silent Scope began as a rather genius arcade game, in which you operated a mounted sniper rifle, with the intention of picking off numerous fleets of baddies in the allotted time before they succeeded in one of their nefarious plots. Now, the thought of porting this to a console is just a big headache, so Konami went with the almost unthinkable approach of just letting you use the controller and not even releasing a peripheral! For the most part, though, it does actually work, and whilst not quite as fun as the arcade version, is somewhat more accurate, probably because they're not trying to stiff you out of any more money than you've already paid for the ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review No sequel for Dreamcast...... (384 words)

Silent Scope, developed by Konami does exactly what it says on the box…… It’s a game all about the phenomenon of ‘sniping’ by using the so called ‘Sniper Rifle’, which has now appeared an my other games mostly in First Person Shooters (FPS). So called Sniping is so popular, most probable because it takes a little more skill to delecut aim at a person or object an to kill it with one shot or bullet. This is very rewarding, just zooming in and picking of people from afar. The game features many different challenges mostly including terrorists in which you have to shoot, without them being able to see you ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Silent Scope (DC): silent scope is supreme (155 words)

I have recently been looking for a half decent shooting game for the dream cast. I was looking through a magazine at reviews of games, and I used to really listen to magazines game reviews up until now at least. An un-official dream cast magazine gave silent scope 3 out of 10 I thought that this game must really suck. I went into electronics boutique the next day only to see silent scope in the pre-owned box priced at 15 pounds, I ended up buying it because of the very low price. Silent scope is absolutely excellent, the game had the best graphics I have ever seen on a shooting game, much better than house of dead and zombie revenge, and unlike those titles this game is ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Snipin without a gun? (459 words)

A nice little story In the beginning was the word, and the word was "Space". But "Space" was lonely, and so unto the world came a second word, and that word was "Invaders". And Lo, Space Invaders begat Asteroids, which begat Star Wars, which begat Paperboy, which begat Operation Wolf, which begat Silent Scope. And Silent Scope was brought unto the world by the blessed Konami, and yeah over a period of forty days and forty nights and possibly a bit longer, they constructed an arcade cabinet to house their game. And LO, the cabinet was two cubits wide, by twelve cubits high, by four cubits deep, and LO, it was constructed of wood ...  Read the complete review

Silent Scope (DC): A perfect Conversion (429 words)

At first I lived in the ridiculous hope that someone would design a two foot long peripheral to come with the game but Konami have got round that problem with a simplistic joypad control method that actually makes the game much easier to play than its often frustrating coin-op counterpart. Basically you use the D-pad (or analogue stick) in order to move the cross-hair to where you want it and then press or release a defined button to bring up the zoomed in scope view. Both views have to be cleverly manipulated as the cross hair moves far slower in zoomed in mode than it does in long-range vision. This does allow for sheer accuracy, large points scores and smugness in ...  Read the complete review
