Advantages: Easy to learn, good fun

Disadvantages: Infuriatingly difficult in places, not long enough

Sega's latest arcade conversion, 'Silent Scope' made a very welcome entrance onto the DC earlier in the year.

Reviews were good and bad. The game was (and still is) a huge hit in the arcades and some said that it wouldn't work on a console (any console, not just the DC).

Certainly, the lack of gun was seen as a major loss for effect, but in truth, those of us who hadn't played the arcade version didn't need a gun.

As in most games, once you've mastered the controls then you're laughing! It really does work extremely well.

And so to the game itself. Not the most imaginative or lengthy games you'll come across this year - leave that to the likes of Shenmue - but certainly very enjoyable. Basically, you are a hidden sniper assigned to take out a bunch of terrorists who have kidnapped the President, his daughter and the First Lady (his wife!).

Sounds easy, but it isn't as the game takes you through rooftop shootouts, nighttime shootouts, helicopter shootouts (you get the picture...).

Have you ever tried shooting a moving target from a moving helicopter? Well, it's harder than it looks.

So, a good enough game to be up in the top 10 games of this year, but not a classic.
