Advantages: Game about sniping
Disadvantages: Very repetative
Silent Scope, developed by Konami does exactly what it says on the box…… It’s a game all about the phenomenon of ‘sniping’ by using the so called ‘Sniper Rifle’, which has now appeared an my other games mostly in First Person Shooters (FPS). So called Sniping is so popular, most probable because it takes a little more skill to delecut aim at a person or object an to kill it with one shot or bullet. This is very rewarding, just zooming in and picking of people from afar. The game features many different challenges mostly including terrorists in which you have to shoot, without them being able to see you and shoot at you. Scenarios like the London bridge and in an American, yes American football ground, shooting them from a helicopter. So why did they bother producing a game with just one gun? Well Silent Scope it the port of the Arcade hit, it has been very popular in the past. It’s that popular that both the PS2 and Dreamcast versions have been produced, both pretty much identical, including the graphics. The only difference that I can see being that you have forked out about £200 less for the console. This is though, one or two big floors to the game, that do seem to vitally affect your enjoyment. Number on being that there is no multiplayer, you cant snipe against each other. All that’s on offer is a single player missions based game. Another big flaw, and this is the biggest of the lot; the popular Arcade version used the Sniper gun peripheral, players had an actual gun and zoom view to look through in the game. There is no such ‘Sniper Rifle’ peripheral for the game, there’s not even a gun that works with it. It may be dropping in price now and would certainly be good on budget. If you are a little disappointed at what they have missed out in the game then look for the sequel Silent Scope 2, thankfully including multip
layer opinions. It may or may not be released for Dreamcast, it’s due for release on PS2, but may not, due to the fall of Dreamcast.

- 10/08/01 Doesn't really sound as though there is much to this game to make it worth buying really, good opinion though. |
