Despite the relatively short life of the Dreamcast, it was a platform rich in RPGs and adventure titles, with gems such as Grandia 2 and both Shenmue games really showing what the Dreamcast could do if developers simply spent a little time trying to get the best out of the format. Another of these is Skies of Arcadia (or as some out of touch people still call it, Eternal Arcadia) which was released at approximately the same time as Grandia 2. This was unfortunate as it meant that out of the choice of both titles, people were inclined to go for the recognized name, meaning that Skies was made to take a back seat. After I played the demo I knew I had to get this game.I am a fan of console rpgs,this is one of the best I have played in the last few years.The story starts with you controlling Vyse an air pirate who attacks,gets on board a ship and rescues a strangely dressed woman. Vyse and his female friend Aika go to a island to get the moonstone that has dropped on the island.When they return to Pirate Isle their home they find it burnt to the ground and most of the inhabitants have been kidnapped.Then with the help of a old man with a hook for a hand they go to Valua where they rescue the people who have been kidnapped and save the ... Potentially yawn- including role-player narrowly escapes turn-based tedium by throwing in spectacular battles against bizarre enemies. Explore the land of Arcadia in a flying galleon, hacking through random battles using your team’s arsenal of swords and sorcery. I would say the best bit for me is the Jabba-the-hut like boss who brandishes lethal vomit as a weapon.
