Sonic Adventure 2 (DC)

Description: New platformer for everyone's favourite hedgehog

Newest Review: ... the pesky camera issues that plagued the first game (although they still haven't ironed this out completely, unfortunately), ... more

... but it's got superb graphics, from the shine of Sonic's shell, to the bloom lighting in the beach-style levels. Speaking of which, the maps themselves (calling them levels seems a bit more redundant now that there's the free-roaming element) have been tightened up a bit, making it more clear where you have to go, ensuring that you don't traipse around in circles for hours on end. Also, fans of the Sonic legacy are in for a treat, as Shadow the Hedgehog rears his hed as your mortal enemy, meaning you'll have to face off...more

Sonic Adventure 2 is slightly better than the first one – I can definitely come to that conclusion, but I will only award the sequel 4 stars instead of 5 because 1 and a half years on I do not believe the improvement is great enough, there still some niggles and flaws in the game, but overall, it’s more of that same classic, unbeatable Sonic speed gameplay. And it’s worth your money, I can tell you that. Graphics have improved from the original, although only slightly as the first was pretty impressive, and we now no longer have to endure the ‘between level’ boredom that was gratuity with the first, thankfully everything is a lot ...  Read the complete review

Happy Birthday Sonic! The release of Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast marks the tenth anniversary of the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise, a series which has spanned more hardware platforms than most are aware of. The original Sonic Adventure was the first true, Sonic Team produced game featuring the Hedgehog with attitude to be entirely in 3D and, unsurprisingly, this one follows suit. As with previous Sonic games, this title follows Sonics attempts to foil the nasty world domination schemes of Dr Eggman (More commonly Dr Robotnik in the west). Like the previous Sonic Adventure title, it also features a slightly more fleshed out plot than the simplistic ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sonic Adventure 2 (DC): Sonic's last dash for Dreamcast (701 words)

Sonic is ten years old, and marks the prestigious date by making his last appearance on a Sega branded console before heading off to other hardware... Somehow I missed his 16bit outings, and my real first inroduction to the blue hedgehog was Sonic Adventure, one of the launch titles for the Dreamcast. It was a strange mix. Fast, action-packed 3D recreations of Sonics 2D megadrive levels met awkward 'adventure' roaming levels. Dazzling graphics often betrayed inadequacies in framerate and draw distance, while the game itself showed occasional glimpses of inspiration. I had a soft spot for Sonic Adventure, despite it's obvious flaws, and ...  Read the complete review

What a way to celebrate your tenth birthday… I’ll begin by stating that this game is a must have for any sonic fan, and anyone who wants a superbly made game with longevity to make a tantric lover jealous. You can tell that Sonic team have put a lot of work into making this game worthy of being released on the blue fella’s tenth birthday, with absolutely beautiful graphics which really show off the Dreamcast’s capabilities, smooth and engrossing gameplay, and (maybe surprisingly) a good sound track. Now then. Let me get more detailed. I’ve finished this game, and I enjoyed every minute of it. The gameplay is utterly ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Sonic Adventure 2 (DC): Sonic - not showing his age one bit (629 words)

Sonic Adventure 2 was released on June 23rd, 2001, to mark the occasion of his 10th birthday. He's not an old hedgehog with a zimmer frame just yet, though ... I haven't completed the game yet. I thought I'd better say that in case you get the idea this is based on a complete playthrough. When I *do* complete the game, I'll make sure this is updated, though! The first Sonic Adventure was a marvellous game, and really grabbed my attention. I played it from start to finish over a week, and still play it today in an effort to try and get all the emblems. It's quite a feat to follow, but SA2 has all the markings of doing so. ...  Read the complete review
