Advantages: Fast, Fun, furious!

Disadvantages: might be short, not as much will to play

When Sonic adventure came out for the Dreamcast and everyone’s jaw dropped at the stunning visuals and extremely attractive over all play of the game and no one thought this kind of game with Sonic is could be matched. When the first Sonic demo came out with… PSO and we all saw how stunning the second looked the publics mind switched to this exciting sequel. With more characters and mini games to play who could fall in love with Sonic Adventure 2?

The plot in this game is… a funny one to say the least but it does make for some great levels and enjoyment for the gamer. So here we go… Dr Robotnik (or Dr Eggman as he is now known) is back up to his old tricks again with that whole ‘world domination’ thing going on but he stumbles across a sonic look-alike. This mysterious hedgehog (Shadow) claims himself as the ultimate life form and carries a Chaos emerald with him too, so Eggman takes him on and they work together. A while later a bat named Rouge joins them, and she: like knuckles collects pieces of the master emerald. Of course the good guys who is again Sonic, Tails and Knuckles help stop the evil party.

But this time the game is a lot different in the way which person you play with and which side they are on. Basically you choose to be a good guy or bad guy. Hero or Dark guy in other words. IF you choose hero you get Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles and for the dark team you have Dr Eggman, Rouge and the ultimate life from… Shadow! This means that you alternate character from either side after each level with each character having a different story.

The graphics still cease to amaze me in each level where something new always crops up. Most of the levels have smooth visuals and there are minor things happening that will raise your eyebrow for a second but it works to great effect. Like all games the graphics aren’t anything near perfect but this one does have a few patches where you character w
ill get stuck or the camera will jolt around. Speaking on of the camera, this can be quite annoying at points and in small places or just some stages the angle just turns and you cant see where you’re going which is very annoying when you are walking along a narrow passage with lava or something at the bottom.

The gameplay is exactly the same as the first one. Each character has their own nemesis in this game and both have the same ability. For instance…
Sonic vs. Shadow. These two both have the normal fast pace running topped off with the rolling spin attack and the homing attack they pull off.
Tails vs. Dr Eggman. This unlikely feud has the same abilities as the famous e 102. They send out a laser to lock onto a target and then fire a missile at the target.
Knuckles vs. Rouge. The echidna and bat can glide, dig, punch and search for emeralds by using a detector thing!

The gameplay is always fast, furious and darn fun to have a go with! On some stages you wont even be controlling your character, but just watching them go flying down through the depths of the level.

The slightly more dire aspects of this game can really annoy some people, and it did aggravate me at first. Unlike the first game, which was very playable, there doesn’t seem to be any glint of magic that makes you wants to play it over and over again. I found that on the first game made you want to complete even some of the dull stages where as here some of knuckles or Rouge’s level are so boring you have no reason to pass it and just gets repetitive. Other wise the game is pretty sound and everyone who likes platform/adventures will love this or in fact anyone will like this game for a while.

But what makes this game slightly better is the reason that you get a funky multi player including 3 stages all with the 3 sets of people that hate each other (Sonic vs. Shadow, Tails vs. Dr Eggman, Knuckles vs. Rouge) and it is great fun! You
will get sick of it but still; there is something there for everyone. Sonic and shadow race to the finish, Tails and Eggman shoot each other and Knuckles and Rouge have to find 2 emeralds first. I played with my mate and we had fun with this for a whole evening at least!

Over all this game are a great laugh and a fun few weeks or more for any gamer to play with. Major fans of the first DC title will be a bit disappointed but will soon get used to the idea of this game taking the hot spot. A hugely entertaining game and a nice way for the last Sonic game ever to appear on a Sega machine.
