Advantages: everything
Disadvantages: amy and big cat are a little boring to play with because they are slow
This game is without doubt, one of the best games i have ever played in my entire life, although i love goldeneye on the n64 more than any game on the planet, sonic has quickly become a firm and honourable second place! To start with the graphics are stunning on this game, especially cosidering it was the first game to really stretch the legs of how good the dreamcast really is. The speed of the game is unlike any game i have ever played before, it is so fast that at several points in the game you feel like you have no control over whatever the hell you are doing, but this just adds to the difficulty of the game, and enjoyment, i would even say that the game is so fast that it makes games like wipeout 2097 and extreme g, look extremely slow and boring! The first outing of sonic in 3D is a masterpeice, a work of art i might say, the graphics are so sharp and so smooth that you would think that the game was on a more powerful pc, but then i would say that about a lot of dreamcast games, especially compared to the PS2 which i feel is overated and offers nothing but sequels, i mean come on tekken 5, what a joke! The gameplay of sonic is so smooth that there is absolutley no jumping, which is a nice factor especially for someone like me who came from a gaming career of smooth flowing cartridge games, onto CDs which i have always felt to be a little too jumpy in the graphics department for a long time, however this game is a strong exception to that rule! I got the game for free as part of the package when i bought my dreamcast, but because it is one of the earlier games on the console, it has dropped in price, so it is a bargain, which to be honest i would say it was at full price when first released, it is just that good! The game retails now for around the £20 mark. There are a multitude of charecters on the game, which include the likes of old favourites sonic, tails and knuckles (one mean s.o.b. if there ever was one in
a game), however, there are the new additions of amy, big the cat, who are a little on the weak side, but they have their own missions to succeed at. There is also a brilliant addition of one of robotnics robots, who has a conscience (there's something you don't see every day), called the E 102, which is superb because you get to play with rocket launchers and a jetpack, so he is a fun, but very un sonic like charecter, to use. To play with these charecters you have to unlock them by completing missions on the game, many of which are fairly easy, but all must be completed, to both progress through the game and earn charecters! All in all, a remarkably good game, which has a superb price and too many good features to choose from!

- 06/06/01 Watch out for the typo's there, it is probably best to write opinions in a word processor before posting them. Then any typo's should be detected. Hope this helps... :-) |

- 21/05/01 Its not that often you have to get through an area through repeat plays, and when you do have to its usually because of a silly mistake rather than because of the speed of the game! |
