Advantages: Good game for those who like Tokyo racing
Disadvantages: Wont appeal to everyone
Tokyo Highway Challenge 2 is the sequel to Tokyo Xtreme Racer, where players felt that the original was a hit-and-miss game i.e. floaty handling. No.2 looks to put this right.
For those new to Tokyo Challenge, its all about racing on the highway in Japan. You may have watched fast and furious 3, which explains that modified cars race illegally on highways with traffic around at high speeds.
The game as a career mode which pretty much is the same as career modes in other racing games, in that you start with a 'lousy' car and work your way up. Though unlike other games, once you have chosen you car, you need to wander the highway and flash lights on prospective racers or get challenged.
After that... the racing begins.. while you try to dodge traffic and be ahead of your rival.
Besides you can customise your car's exterior image and its handling, pretty much like other racing games for e.g. spoilers, bumpers, steering handling.
The Graphics are pleasing but definitely have a night time look to them. The cars are detailed but of course not as detailed as current HD games, and the same applies to road side detail.
However this game will not appeal to everyone, due to its subject matter, takes place only at night, and can get monotonous.
In summary Tokyo Highway Challenge 2 is a fun game, for fans of the series and one of the better Dreamcast racers. Give it a try, you might just like it!
Recommended 7/10
Summary: A good game that is worth a try.
