... to stand a realistic chance of beating the incredible good goalkeepers, something that is actually rewarding for a change, it’s really very, very hard indeed. But, with practice makes perfect and you should improve with each game you play. The controls are simple to learn – you have a wide range of moves you can perform – bicycle kicks as well as diving headers, scissor kicks and individual skills including ball juggling even in play! Player animations are good, each footballer actually has...more

Crowned Review UEFA Striker (DC): Deportivo, Arsenal, Sampdoria, Sainte Ettiene, but why? (1667 words)

So, you may have heard that Sega are pulling out of the hardware market - they will now only make games, for both Dreamcast and other games machines, but it makes you wonder why they bothered sponsoring all of FOUR European football teams (see opinion title to find out which!). Other than Sega's 2 ‘Worldwide soccer’ games (SWWS 2000 and the SWWS 2000 Euro Edition) and their diabolical arcade conversion - Virtua Striker 2 version 2000.1, there has only been UEFA striker, UEFA Dream Soccer (out last December - no official players or teams...), and the 'yet-to-be-released' European League Soccer, which hasn't been raved about by the magazines at ...  Read the complete review

UEFA Striker is a really good game on the Dreamcast, possibly the best football game on the console, for many reasons, although, as with many games, it’s not perfect, far from it in fact, but still you can’t go far wrong with this game, especially when it costs the right side of £10, you should easily be able to find this for £9.99, online and offline. Graphics are far better than the PlayStation football games, although I wouldn’t say that the visuals alone are enough to make a game worth buying – ISS Pro Evolution 2 is a rather good PlayStation football game, I’d say it’s better than UEFA Striker in gameplay, but visually this ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review UEFA Striker (DC): Best Footy On The DC, But Not The Best Ever (336 words)
by - written on 28/12/00 (Very useful, 44 readings)

UEFA Striker is the best footy game on the Dreamcast. It outshines the likes of Virtua Striker and Sega Worldwide Soccer both cosmetically, and playability wise. Graphically it is not as good as it could be, there are a few glitches and some lack of detail in the bakgrounds. A few frames of animation seem missing too. But it still looks good enough to do the job. But its the playability where this hame shines. It plays smoothly enough, although the controls take time to master and the keepers seem unbeatable for a while. But this game offers a bit more than the usual league, cup and friendly modes (of which there are plenty) but there are also a couple ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Rushed? You Bet! (197 words)

UEFA Striker is Microsoft International Football 2000 (PC) with a different name. There are absolutely no differences that I can see between the two titles, aside from different intro movies, of course. The game has the same "ping pong" feel of MIF2000 and also, the stupid sliding tackles that with one button press, take you down a quarter of the pitch are also still included. It's pretty much impossible to perform a sliding tackle without performing a foul for this reason. There are at least 4 penalties a match and the red cards flow thick and fast. Graphically, UEFA Striker is pretty impressive in places, but ultimately ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review UEFA Striker (DC): Smooth Footy Sim (182 words)

Rating:

With no FIFA football games on the Dreamcast and none coming the chances of a great footy sim are bleak but UEFA Striker is enjoyable, most European clubs are included along with some international sides most using real player names. The graphics are smooth and gameplay is fast, you have the option to change the game speed and cpu pressure to suit your needs. The game editor mode is great giving you the pleasure of taking the best players from the game and playing them in your custom side. The training mode is useful with a new feature called freeplay where you play in attack against a team using only one half, the unique feature is that ...  Read the complete review
