The name is somewhat deceptive, however, as completing the career mode requires the successful completion of a few sparring fights which grant the player points to allocate towards the "purchase" of new holds and strikes. After these sparring rounds are through, the newly created character becomes accessible in the game's other modes. The UFC mode could perhaps be more accurately described as the proper "career" mode. Here, players enter a chosen fighter into a s...more

Crowned Review Ultimate Fighting Championship (DC): Did you spill my pint? (1580 words)

First of all I have to start with a word of warning. ******************************************* This game is NOT for children. I would say 12 and over is the minimum age for this. I know that this sounds like an over-reacting old man thing to say but some games are just not for younger people and this is one of them. ******************************************* But if on the other hand you're all grown up: Based on the real event of the same name, Ultimate Fighting Championship is a tournament where some of the world’s roughest and toughest fighters compete. There is no messing about here - the better fighter wins. Two ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Who Needs the WWF? (322 words)

I was a little dispappointed at the wrestling games that were developed for the dreamcast, as the two WWF games were quite poor and short lived in terms of the fun stakes. But I needn't of feared as this game more than makes up for it. The game uses the Ultimate Fighting Championship Licence. This is a world fighting contest to see who is the best it involves all different fighting techniques from Shoot Fighting to normal wrestling and there is no faking it here. Most of the people involved are recreated here, the graphics for the game are not the best I have seen but they certainly do the job well. The options available, are UFC, this ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ultimate Fighting Championship (DC): Ultimate fighting GAME (506 words)

After the disappointment that was WWF: Royal Rumble, the Dreamcast is still in desperate need of a top quality wrestling title. I think that the closest we're going to get is this. Crave have never published a fully fledged beat 'em up and this is Anchor's first game, so you'll forgive me for being a little apprehensive, I'm sure. The fact of the matter is that UFC is a no-holds-barred, any style fighting tournament involving fighters from all over the world. Sumo, Wrestling, Kickboxing and Karate are all represented and it makes a refreshing change from the excellent but sometimes dull WWF/WCW style fighting. Graphics I have to say, that ...  Read the complete review

"Ultimate Fighting Championship" is a video game which was released for the Sega Dreamcast in 2000 by Ubisoft. It is a sports themed title with martial arts being represented. In the European marketplace, the game received a guidance rating which deemed it suitable for ages 15 and above. "Ultimate Fighting Championship" showcases mixed martial artists who represent the organization of the same name. The game pits the player against single opponents in hand-to-hand combat within the confines of an caged octagonal ring. Featuring a wide array of true to life fighters, who are each equipped with their own unique styles, the player is able to ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Ultimate Fighting Championship (DC): Solid beat em up (323 words)

By now, in 2009, the Ultimate Fighting Championship is a pretty hot commodity - it currently has a higher buy rate than alternatives like the WWE, although back when this game was released on the Dreamcast, they were still struggling with their violent reputation and trying to become recognised as a legitimate sport. Nevertheless, they managed to get licensed for a game. At the time of the game's release, UFC went by a mostly "anything goes" rule, and aside from crotch shots and hair pulling, they still let a lot go (although had to make some concessions to the Nevada State Athletic Comittee to get legal status as a sport) - you can pummel your ...  Read the complete review
