I have to admit that I've always had a soft spot for Virtua Fighter 3tb. The arcade game from which it spawned was the last machine I can claim to have got any real challenge out of, and given the dying nature of the fighting game in the arcades, I'm sure you can imagine even then it wasn't much. As if to further condemn the game, it was released on the Dreamcast, a console that was never all that popular, and the game was already quite old by the time the console got released, so many gamers passed it up in favour of newer, made for DC games. And as if all of that wasn't enough, the game also had to live up to the unimaginable pressure of living up to Virtua Fighter 2, ... Read the complete review

This was one of the titles I bought when I purchased my UK Dreamcast and I have to say it really disappoints me. It feels like your characters are fighting in treacle, every response they make is incredibly slow and it's impossible to get into the fights. The character animation is unimpressive and I found there was really nothing to hold me to the game. What perhaps makes the title worse is when you compare it to Soul Calibur which was released a while after VF3tb. There the animation is fluid and your characters responsive, you actually feel like you're part of the fight. Here the game seems to g out of it's way to put you off. The only time it ... Virtua Fighter 3 TB was not the success that Sega had hoped for, but then the arcade conversion wasn’t all that spectacular to say the least! The graphics are good, but pale in comparison to the might Soul Calibur and the fantastic Dead or Alive 2, and aren’t really a match for PS2’s Tekken Tag either, but the game is still worth a look at if you can find it for under £20. All the classic fighters are back with new moves and fighting styles. The music should be a lot better though and the sound effects are poor. I hope that Virtua Fighter X, appearing on all formats in 2002, will be much better, I’m sure it will. The graphics, as I ... Read the complete review

Aside from an average options, arcade, and practice modes, the game includes a team battle mode, allowing you to make a group of fighters and play through in the same manner as the arcade mode. Also you can view a long, cool-looking video about the whole Virtua Fighter series in the history mode. And of course, there's a versus mode. There are twelve immediately selectable players, and a boss that can be used with a code. Every character has their own stage, in which you must defeat them to progtress any further in the game most with a unique terrain design. Each character has an extensive move list, which is a plus for ... Read the complete review

Blimey, this is such a disappointment. As one of the launch titles it was meant to show the power of the DC, instead it really doesn’t improve much over the Saturn versions. There are some great touches, such as the uneven ground where you can get above an opponent, but graphically it just cannot hold a candle to the mighty Soul Calibur. The characters are blocky, slow and, quite frankly, ugly. It’s not a terrible game, but really things have moved on since this was cutting edge. If you are a mad beat em up fan then of course you’ll want to experience this game for yourself, but for most of us, Soul Calibur is a much better choice, and if you want a ...
