Advantages: V.Silly. Multiplayer hillarity.
Disadvantages: Graphics suck, slowdown. Can be frustrating
This is a funny game. The third in the worms series continues the tradition for complete silliness. For those of you who've been locked in a basement for the last 10 years, the worms games are a humorous take on the strategy genre. You get a team of worms (usually 4), dotted randomly along a randomly generated 2D (the whole game is 2D) landscape, and you use various weponry to destroy your opponent(s) team(s) in a turn based fashion. You can also move around the scenery using ropes or jet packs to get into better death-inflicting positions, or build girders to protect yourself from enemy fire (evil). The oneplayer in this game is good, the missions are addictive but some of the later ones can just be too hard. There is a good training mode and the deathmatch AI is well weighted. Despite all this, it's the multiplayer which really shines in this game. Get some mates, some beer and some pringles and you could play this all night. If you want to add extra spice, you could bet on the matches (don't tell your parents I said that kiddies). Graphically Worms Armageddon is pretty poor. It is 2D in it's pureist form, and is all the better for it. Worms would not be worms in 3D. The problems come with the framerate. The one thing you don't expect from a turn based, 2D game is slowdown, but this has more of it than any other dreamcast game I've ever played. This is unexcusable, and is due to the game running on the (crap) windows CE operating system, rather than the regular sega OS. Despite that problem, this game is still fun as its soooo silly. You can use exploding sheep, carpet bombs (actual rolls of carpet falling from the sky), and even the holy hand grenade (of monty python fame). It's great. There's nothing like watching a mumbling old woman stroll towards your mate's last worm only to explode in his face. I really like this game, but I can't recommend it. With Worms World Party (an improve
d, online version) on the way, I have to say that you should wait for that, it's gonna be great. But if you see it reduced, and especially if you have pleanty of friends, you should definatly consider it.

- 06/07/00 Good Review: Worms Armageddon is incredibly addictive and there is no better way to reduce household tension at Christmas. I also thought that in comparison to Worms the graphics are notably improved.
If you have PS then the game is much cheaper....27.99 |
