Advantages: Good graphics and physics

Disadvantages: Only two players!?

The Dreamcast is something of a safe haven for arcade fantatics, with just about every type of game imaginable, from light gun shoot em ups, to a FISHING SIMULATOR, and even a cab sim, being on the platform. Zombie Revenge joins the lot as the requisite entry into the niche "zombie beat em up" genre, with you and a team of 80s action film character knock-offs travelling through a zombie-ridden city with the hope that the various beasties won't have you for tea.

With an ever increasing array of weaponry, you will have to battle through numerous levels, and can get a friend to team up with you to take on the horde also. My main regret with the game is that it appears to be a fairly lazy port - they've ported it simply as a two-player beat em up, despite the fact that it clearly wouldn't have taken much effort to allow four players to compete together in the carnage.

On the plus side, there's some rather impressive detail, both as it pertains to the general locations, and also the fact that many enemies can be thoroughly picked apart and even dismembered, the film fully earning its "Mature" rating. I also like that, unlike a lot of games, like Resident Evil where, if you run out of ammo, you're pretty much screwed, this game allows you to partake in hand to hand combat with enemies, meaning you can kill a few and by that time probably find something to start shooting away with before the next boss shows up (unless you're very, very unlucky!).

I admire a game that doesn't have pretensions to be something it isn't, and that's Zombie Revenge throughout - it's a simple game about kicking zombie butt, and it succeeds thoroughly at that, with enough carnage and mayhem for you and a buddy to enjoy. Sadly, though, it's let down quite a bit by a lazy port that doesn't accomodate four players, as I expected when first playing it. Nevertheless, it's a fun, if disposable yarn.

Summary: A fairly lazy port that's still decent enough
