Advantages: One of the lowest calorie alcopops
Disadvantages: Lacks flavour (and alcohol) , left me with an upset stomach
I used to drink Bacardi Breezers when I was in my teens but then I am pleased to say my taste beds matured and I became a wine drinker. Last year the supermarkets started advertising low calorie Bacardi Breezers and I thought I would give them a go. I had been looking for a new drink, something other than wine where I could drink without getting too drunk and that is easy to drink but reasonably low calorie. I was extremely pleased when I found out that per bottle of the Low Sugar Bacardi Breezers there were only 100 calories per bottle, which is less than half that in a standard bottle of alcopop. The blueberry flavour sounded even more appealing. My experience after drinking two bottles was less than appealing and I can honestly say I will never be drinking a bottle of Blueberry Bacardi Breezer again.... Ever!
***What is it***
Blueberry Bacardi Breezers are "a blend of Bacardi rum, spring water and blueberry fruit flavours". Each 275ml bottle is promoted to contain less than 100 calories per bottle.
***Packaging***
The drink comes in a 275ml clear glass bottle. The label on the bottle displays the Bacardi Breezer brand and states this is Blueberry flavour.
The liquid inside the bottles is bright blue. This is not as light a blue as the colour of Blue WKD, and the Blueberry Bacardi Breezers appear a murkier colour than Blue WKD.
***Price***
I noticed Asda often have these on special offer. A pack of four 275ml bottles usually cost around £4.50. Asda recently were selling these four packs for £2.50. This does seem like excellent value, but in my opinion on special offer that's still £2.50 more than I would be willing to pay for these drinks!
***The Drink***
The scent of the drink is very odd. Like with most alcopops this drink smells fruity but this is a very artificial unnatural scent (even worse than a Blue WKD). The scent does smell of berries but more similar to perfume or air freshner rather than fruit juice or fruit that you would eat!
The drink does not taste sweet like most alcopops do it tastes very sour and bitter. This tastes nothing at all like blueberries and reminds me almost of bitter blackberries. This initial taste hits your mouth and then as you swallow a very artificial sugary taste is left in your mouth. As you drink more of the drink this sugary artificial taste seems to coat your mouth leaving you with a plastic type taste in your mouth.
The taste of the Bacardi is not at all apparent, but in most alcopops you cannot taste the alcohol. However the alcohol content is lower in these Bacardi Breezers than other alcopops and per bottle it is 4%ABV rather than the usual 5% ABV. That tied in with the artificial sugary taste may explain the distinct lack of Bacardi taste.
About an hour after drinking (one) bottle of the Blueberry flavour of Bacardi Breezer I felt extremely sick and had a bit of an upset stomach. I didn't really think anything of it as I had other drinks. The following week I had two bottles one afternoon whilst sitting in the garden. An hour later I was extremely sick and had an upset stomach. I mentioned this to a friend who also said she felt pretty sick after drinking this flavour from the Bacardi Breezer range.
***Overall***
I certainly will not be drinking or buying Blueberry Bacardi Breezers ever again. I think I was pretty unfortunate than the drink does not agree with my stomach but even if that was not the case I don't think I could bear to drink something that tastes less of blueberry and more sour and artificial which just leaves a sugary plasticy coating in your mouth. Completely disgusting!
Summary: One of the worst alcopops I have ever drank
