Britvic Robinsons Fruit Shoot
by loopylou1234
I remember when I was living at home my younger brothers and sisters used to have fruit shoots for a treat, especially when they were treated to a Happy Meal from MacDonalds. Now my daughters are bought these by their Granny for a treat.
The drink I am reviewing today is the Apple and Blackcurrant flavour. It has the ... description Low Calorie Apple and Blackcurrant Soft Drink with sweeteners.
-- Packaging --
This is a 200ml plastic bottle. The drink bottle is quite distinctive, it is dark purple with a blue and white push top bottle. The label had a clear Green and White Robinsons logo on with images of apples and blackcurrants to indicate what the flavour is. When the bottle is unopened it has a clear plastic cap on top to keep it sealed. It has a label around the bottle, which has the ingredients listed on.
-- ingredients --
Water, Fruit Juices from concentrate (Apple 6% Blackcurrant 2%, Plum), Citric Acid, Acidity Regulator (Sodium Citrate), Natural Colour (Anthocyanins), Natural Flavouring, Preservatives (Potassium Sorbate, Dimethyl Dicarbonate), Sweeteners (Acesulfame K, Sucralose, Antioxidant (Ascorbic Acid).
-- The Taste --
I personally think think this drink appeals more to children. My eldest daughter is 4 and she loves them! They're convenient for school lunch boxes, I do sometimes reuse the bottles as they seal well and don't leak.
I find they taste like strong Blackcurrant squash. They are meant to gave less added sugar now, on the front of the bottle it says 'Low Sugar'.
-- Price and Availability --
These are available from most retailers that sell soft drinks. We buy them mainly in a multipack, they are currently £1.89 for a pack of 4.
-- Overall Summary --
I would recommend these, they aren't the cheapest to buy but good for a treat. Also find them useful for days out as it saves money by not having to buy the kids drinks out.

Buxton Mineral Water
by thriftygiftyisme
=Buxton Mineral Water=
As I have the misfortune of having a condition that I sweat excessively, it also leaves me with a really dry mouth, at home it is not a problem as I can get a drink when and as I want one, but travelling or out and about, i always need to carry a drink with me.
=Buxton=
On one of my ... supermarket visits, I noticed that they did a multi-pack od 8 x 500ml bottles and where around £1.50, to be honest you pay that for one bottle while you are out.
=The Water=
Mineral water always tastes nicer than tap water, it has been filtered to give it a natural taste, I store mine in the fridge so that there is always one ready for when I need to grab and go.
=The Bottles=
The bottles are of clear plastic, with a label on the front explaining that it is Buxton water, and a picture of hills.
The lid has a screw off Blue lid, which is east to open and reseal.
=Taste=
I find this to be a nice refreshing taste, and when i am out and about my daughter usually tries a sip, although the only time she really drinks water is when were abroad. It has a sharper taste than tap water, but once you have taken a couple of sips it is refreshing, and for me the 500ml gives me the extra fluid that I need to replace what I have lost.
=Sizes=
Buxton water is available in many sizes and from most locations, whether thats a petrol garage, convience stall to a Supermarket, and comes in single and multi-packs.
=Would I recommend=
I would highly recommend Buxton water, and best of all its supporting local businesses.
=When finished=
The bottles are recyclable. Read the complete review |

PRODUCT OVERVIEW
Around a year ago I had a reaction to some of my medication I was taking, I felt very ill and could not face food. I could not even eat a slice of toast without feeling sick and a friend suggested these milk drinks to me. They are a decent meal replacement for a short time although not designed for this I do ... not think.
These milk drinks are produced by Grace foods Ltd.
I think these are really primarily designed as a sports type of protein drink, they have a lot of added vitamins and minerals although looking at their website they also advertise them as being suitable for someone on a diet, I am not so sure about this as they have a very high calorie content.
The drink comes in a tin that is almost the size of a normal tin of baked beans with a very similar style label on the tin. To open the tin you need to remove an old style non safety ring pull that I remember from my teens. I have to admit I had not seen this style of ring pull in years until I bought one of these. I am really not a big fan of this style of ring pull after standing on one when I was in my teens on a holiday abroad, it had been left on the beach and was slightly buried in the sand, it made an awfully sore deep cut on my foot and I have been very wary of them ever since.
The drink itself is quite thick for a milk drink and reminds me more of a tin of flavoured condensed milk. The flavours I have tried are Strawberry, Chocolate, Banana and Vanilla. I have to say I found the Strawberry and Banana a little fake tasting, not very much like the real fruits but tolerable, however I really liked the Chocolate and Vanilla ones.
INGREDIENTS
I think it really is best not to read the ingredients on the side of these tins but here they are :-
Whole Milk , Skimmed Milk , Sugar , Milk Protein , Emulsifier (E471) , Vitamins and Minerals (Sodium Ascorbate, Copper Gluconate, Manganese Sulphate, Nicotinamide, Thiamine Mononitrate, Folic Acid - includes Dextrose, Potassium Iodide, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Vitamin B12 - includes Mannitol, Riboflavin, Vitamin A Palmitate, Vitamin D3) , Stabiliser (E331) , Salt , Flavouring , Colour (E101) .
These drinks are also very high in calories and fat which again is why I feel they are more suited to work out drinks rather than diet.
Each tin has around 400 calories in and around 12 grams of fat (depending upon the flavouring)
PRICE
Asda is the only large store I have found that stocks these however many corner shops do, I am not sure why this is. The prices vary with stores but I have paid around £1.00 - £1.40 per tin depending on the store.
SIZE
400g Tins
FLAVOURS AVAILABLE
Chocolate, Strawberry, Banana, Cherry, Vanilla and Raspberry
SUMMARY
These are alright for a meal replacement once in a while, they are a little sickly and have a little bit of a strange after taste. High calories and fat would have me advising to drink with caution however I would suggest them as a meal replacement if you are ill but needing to take medication that can not be taken on an empty stomach.
I would give them 3 stars out of 5 because of the funny after taste, high calories, nasty ring pull and high cost per tin. Read the complete review |
