Asda Double Strength Apple and Blackcurrant
by TheYorkshireHawk
ASDA Apple and Blackcurrant Cordial is a pleasant blend between the two fruits and both seem to fit very well with each other in this drink. With it been double strength it is very important that you half the amount you would usually put in to the drink. If a drink is too strong I personally think it becomes undrinkable. I usually find ... half an inch is around the perfect amount, maybe a bit too much sometimes, if you are using a pint glass.
I'd use ice cold water to mix with this cordial as it really brings out the blend between the two fruits. You can usually pick this drink up for around 1 pound and sometimes I've noticed in ASDA they do a "2 for £1.50" deal which is very good if you drink a lot of the cordial.
The taste is perfect and one fruit is not more overpowering than the other for example sometimes a mix of two fruit cordials can result in one fruit been more prominent than the other but here they've perfected the recipe very nicely.

Brecon Carreg Still Water
by 12jane
I am a person that resents buying water, and only buy it if I am away from home with no option to get a glass of water. When I do buy bottled water, it is the Brecon Carreg water I buy, as I am Welsh and like to support a local company. As well as minimise my carbon foot print!
The still version of the Brecon Carreg water is ... the one with the blue lids, there is also sparkling which has a green lid. The plastic lid is easy to open, and is a screw lid, with some of the bottles having a flip-cap sports lid. The label is a simple blue and white design, which has everything you need, including the companies details, and information on the mineral content of the water.
Brecon Carreg water has a pH on 7.8 and it tastes more natural than other bottled water. I was bought up on well water and this tastes very similar. It has been filtered through limestone and is bottled at the source, which helps to maintain the mineral content. The source is in a village called Trap, near Llandeilo in Carmarthenshire, which is in the Brecon Beacons National Park, hence the name.
The bottles are made of transparent plastic, and are tough, yet not too thick. They can easily be reused many times before being recycled. As with all drinks, there is a Best Before date, but it is always several years away, and who keeps a bottle of water for 3 years?
A 500ml bottle costs around 50p, with 300ml, 750ml, 1.5l and 2l bottles also available. Multipacks are also available, which help save a few pennies. Available to purchase in most supermarkets, village shops etc. (at least in Wales, I haven't looked for it in England). Read the complete review |

Britvic Robinsons Fruit & Barley
by milmol7
With Wimbledon on the horizon, the Robsinons offers will be starting to pop up everywhere. And sure enough, on Friday it was 2 bottles of fruit & barley (1lt) for £2.50 from the Co-op, and I chose one orange and one pink grapefruit. The bottles I bought are "Wimbledon Edition" (!) with the Championships' logo proudly ... displayed on the main label.
I have a notion that the "fruit and barley" is that bit more special - maybe because it's more expensive than the regular squash, but it does definitely taste and feel different, no doubt about it. Firstly, for my taste, I don't need as much of this as the fruit squash to make the same size drink. The liquid seems to be thicker, almost very slightly syrupy in texture.
When diluted, you can detect that it is a bit thicker, fuller, than other squashes, it definitely has more "body", if that term could be applied to a soft drink. The flavour, too has that distinctive barley background to it, giving it a more rounded flavour, taking some of the citrusy edge off the drink.
~Science Bit~
Robinson's fruit and barley contains no artificial colours or flavours, and has no added sugar. Each serving contains 6 calories and 0.5g sugar (naturally occuring). It is suitable for vegetarians. The 1lt bottle is concentrated and contains 20 servings although personally, I get more than that, as both my partner and I don't like it as strong as their suggested 1 part to 4 parts water.
