San Pellegrino Limonata
by star3683 Being quite a fan of Italian food I tend to look out for offers on Italian restaurants such as Prezzo and to keep costs down I will often opt to have a soft drink rather than alcohol. One soft drink that I find a lot of Italian restaurants sell is Sanpellegrino Limonata, a sparkling lemon beverage made with lemon juice. This is a lovely ... drink which is very tangy and refreshing and one that I have recently discovered can now be purchased in some supermarkets too. The Limonata comes packaged in 330ml cans and can either be purchased in single cans or in multi-packs of 6. My last purchase was of a single 330ml can from a Sainsbury's local store for £0.79. This may seem quite expensive for a single can of soft drink but in my opinion it is worth it as the drink is made in Italy and contains 16% lemon juice which is much higher than most fruit flavoured soft drinks. The cans are made out of aluminium with a ring pull opening, the cans do have a foil peel able seal which fits over the top of the can which makes the can look quite pretty. The can is yellow in colour at the bottom and blue at the top, there is a picture of fresh lemons on the front and some basic nutritional information. On the back of the can you can find more detailed information about the drink including full ingredients listings, storage instructions and full nutritional information. Although the Limonata drink contains 16% lemon juice it does also contain a fairly high amount of sugar which does push up the calorie content. Each 330ml can contains 33.0g of sugar and 149 calories. Personally this makes this drink a treat for me as I like to keep my sugar intake as low as possible and try and drink sugar free soft drinks where possible. The drink itself is a cloudy colour, it does have a lovely fresh lemon fragrance and a good amount of fizz. I love the taste of this drink as it is the most refreshing and tasty sparkling lemon drink I have tried. It does not taste in anyway artificial and has a zesty, tangy flavour. It is best served cold and over ice which makes it even more refreshing especially on a nice summers day. In my personal opinion this is a lovely drink and certainly worth the money for an occasional treat. Read the complete review |

San Pellegrino Limonata
by Ladyboosh I'm generally not a fan of fizzy drinks. All that gas plays havoc with my constitution! Not to mention the sugar/sweetener content, so this Limonata is strictly for a special treat. I first encountered San Pellegrino drinks in my local Bella Italia restaurant where they specialise in Italian branded drinks. The can is a beautiful bright ... yellow with a picture of ripe lemons and the company logo. The cans are topped with a pretty foil lid which reminds me of the old fashioned Ski yoghurt pots, the ones which looked like milk churns (maybe that's just me). I don't know what purpose this lid serves as the can is sealed with a ring pull, but it is very decorative. The only thing I can think of is that it keeps the bit you drink from clean? The drink is not too fizzy, gently sparkling is a better description, which means that you get more of the taste, which is divine. This is a very fresh tasting drink, the natural lemon juice flavour shines through and it is quite sharp but not sour. It does contain sugar yet doesn't seem overly sweet. San Pellegrino also do a gorgeous blood orange version. I have actually drunk this limonata in Italy, naturally it tastes even better there, but even when I drink it here in dreary England I'm instantly transported to the lemon groves of sunny Sicily. The price for a pack of six cans is £3.49 in Sainsburys which is more expensive than many of the other brands but this is the real deal, and therefore, in my opinion, worth the higher price tag. San Pellegrino Limonata
by angelboouk San Pellegrino is an Italian brand who offer fresh, fruity drinks. They use citrus fruits including lemon, orange (various types) and grapefruit in their drinks. ~Limonata~ 'Sparkling lemon beverage' This lemon drink is made from lemons which are sun-ripened in the South of Italy. It has 16% lemon juice ... concentrate, mineral water and sugar as the main ingredients. Served chilled, it should quench a thirst. It is available in two types of packaging - a small glass bottle and a can. Each 330ml can has just under 150 calories and 10g of sugar. Limonata isn't as easy to locate like a can of Coca Cola. You can purchase it online from stores such as Amazon for under £10 including delivery (6 pack of cans). If you shop on the Ocado website, you can buy this pack for £4.05. Local food halls may also stock this. ~My Thoughts~ Despite being a big fizzy drinks fan, I rarely shy away from the usual suspects ie Irn Bru and Coca Cola. Yesterday, I was browsing the food hall in Jenners (Edinburgh) and spotted a few cans of San Pellegrino. I tried the lemon first and bought the orange today. I wanted something a little bit different from my regular drinks. I paid £1.15 a can which isn't a massive amount but certainly isn't crazy cheap either. Despite the awful weather in Scotland, I was desperate for something refreshing to drink after a train journey with various bags. The packaging of the can is definitely attractive. It is mainly yellow with lemons pictured on the front. It is finished off with a little foil casing around the top of the can which allows it to look more special than your regular lemon drink (yes Sprite and 7UP - I mean you!). Anyway, the most important aspect is the taste. I consumed my Limonata straight from the fridge and straight out of the can. You could pour it over some ice on a warm day or use it as a mixer should you wish to. I just wanted a pleasant drink as I was feeling rather flustered! Limonata has a lovely fizz - not too harsh but certainly not a weak, watery fizz. It has a fresh, lemon scent as you would expect. If you are a fan of the sweeter Lemon based drinks such as Sprite, this may not suit you. The lemon flavour is quite strong and is more natural in flavour than any lemon drink I have ever had before. It is very fresh and ultimately thirst quenching from the first sip. The lemon flavour is very evident. There is a fruity, slightly sweet flavour at first which is incredibly refreshing and tamed a little by the water in the drink. The aftertaste of the drink is quite strong and is very bitter but not overpowering. ~Conclusion~ Limonata is of a high quality and rich in flavour. It is more special than regular lemonade and is so much nicer than regular, lemon flavour sparkling water. It is an acquired taste in my opinion as not everyone will appreciate the natural, bitter flavouring from the fresh lemons. My sister had a sip and found it a little too harsh for her taste buds. I couldn't drink it daily but as an occasional refresher I would happily buy it again if I could get my hands on a few cans! It is high in sugar so take care with that. Overall a special lemon drink and recommended! Thanks for reading x Read the complete review |
