... two of a handfull of states that still alow Absinth production to take place in the way it should. Any absinth sold in a british pub is going to be aimed at students and the like,as a result it does not contain 'thujon' the active ingredient. Found in wormwood, this is the bitter herb that is supposed to give absinth its 'hullucenogenic' properties. It is illegal to produce it in the UK (i think). Anything found in 'weatherspoons' or revoultion is just strong alcohol. Back in the 'mouli...more

Premium Review Absinth King Gold: EAT DRINK, BE MERRY, VERY VERY MERRY (556 words)

Im not actually sure if im writing this review in totally the correct place, so i apologise. But, i am still recoiling from my last binge on the green stuuf, I mean absinth of course, so if you have had any you will understand. Im not sure that im in the place because i wasnt drinking this particular variety, and nor should you. Its not that it doesnt have its own qualities, standing alone it is as good as any paint stripper. You might as well save your money and drink vodka, there is NO difference in the effects. My fling with absinth started a few year back when a friend brought some back from france. This was too long ago to recall. But you will ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Drink at your own risk (801 words)

I first heard about this mythical green drink through a feature in the Sunday Telegraph back in 1999. The journalist reeled off a list of absinth-related events (it's allegedly what caused Van Gogh to cut his ear off, don't you know), and expressed his concern regarding its growing popularity in the UK. From that day on, I knew I had to try it, and searched far and wide for the tipple. My chance came a month or so later whilst out with a couple of friends in a popular Manchester bar called Revolution (I'm sure the Teleraph would have disapproved...) where I was accosted by a couple of drunk Newsnight producers, making the most of their time away ...  Read the complete review

If you haven't tried Absinth, try it now, you will not regret it. I first tried Absinth about 6 years ago in Hungary (where it originates from) and they taught me the RIGHT way to drink it: Step 1: Get a level spoon of Sugar Step 2: Soak it in Absinth Step 3: Set fire to the soaked sugar until the flame begins to die and the sugar starts to caramalise Step 4: Stir the spoon furiously into the shot of Absinth Step 5: Down the shot Step 6: Wait 2 minutes Step 7: Start talking to the orange Penguin now sat in the corner of the pub Step 8: Repeat Step 1 Oh my god, Absinth is a very ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review I am legend (304 words)

Absinth.......a legend amongst hard drinkers. Tragically hard to get hold of in the UK at a reasonable price, many have quested overseas to Eastern Europe in search of this green gold. King Gold lives up to its name, and is definitely a superior brand of absinth. Those who do seek out this spirit would be well advised to look out for the label. True, it still tastes kind of like mouthwash, but minty freshness isn't a bad thing. King Gold doesn't have the same harsh sharpness which betrays many brands of absinth. Its pretty rare to find a spirit which freshens your breath and gets you swiftly drunk. Make no mistake about it: every true believer should have at ...  Read the complete review

This drink is only for the hardcore! THe first time I tried absynth was with a group of friends and it did not dissapoint. At first i thought that it was going to be totally repulsive because of its high alcohol content, but although the fumes coming from it were strong, it was so warm and pleasing and the taste was delicious - a great deal better than I expected. absynth really has an aquired taste to some people but for me it was love at first swag. Warning - absynth is punishingly strong and the weak should not drink this quality spirit. King of spirits Gold is clearly the best absynth on the market, with the highest amount of wormwood of any ...  Read the complete review
