Advantages: tasted terrific, no aftertaste, smooth
Disadvantages: price
By now everyone will have seen and given a wry smile at all those different familar shapes from around the world transformed into the other familiar shape of an Absolut bottle. But where is it from ? Well its from Sweden. Perhaps not the first country to spring to mind but certainly Absolut is now one of the most popular brands in the world. Number 2 or 3 I seem to recall. It has been made since 1879 under the same brand name, like me, you will probably be surprised it is that old given its modern image. Absolut Vodka and I have maintained a love-love relationship. I love to love it, and it, well, it just gets drunk. Or is that me as well ? hic ! Either way I'm happy. Absolut Vodka is a fairly sweet taste compared to most on its own but with the Citron flavour you expect some bitterness. Not so, it is even more surprisingly not smooth and not at all bitter. A shot will set off a warm tingling in your belly, right after it traverses the smooth descent that is the ride down your escape hatch of a mouth. This even smells good, and can be easily used as a pre or a post dinner drink. Probably more so than the plain version. Because of this, I think Citron has to be my favourite flavoured vodka. The first time I discovered Absolut was in America around 8 years ago. From that time on it has become my brand of choice with occasional flings with Smirnoff Black. Unfortunately finances dictate I cant buy it as much as I would like, especially the flavoured ones. The Citron label variety is 40% alcohol or 80 proof depending on which measurement you want to follow. For this particular flavour, a long vodka with coke or even lemonade hits the spots time after time or even straight if that is your thing, you will not be disappointed. The bottle itself (not to mention the marketing behind it) is a work of art, and these are bottles that you will most probably keep with pride rather
than with an inability (or lack of care) in finding the garbage dump outside. The sexy curves, not to mention aesthetic top, make a lovely drop look almost as good as it tastes. The only bad thing about Absolut Citron Vodka is its price. At £14/15 a 75cl bottle, this isn't the kind of thing you drink with the boys on a Friday night on the way to declaring your head an ohmygoddidireallydrinkthatmuchlastnight morning. But for a special occasion or just to have a treat, this is just the job. And besides, isn't that what money is worth spending on anyway?
