Advantages: Delicious; Makes a nice change from plain vodka
Disadvantages: None
I don't really like vodka much because it has got such a harsh taste and even with a mixer it still burns my throat as it goes down, my cousin knows this so I was confused when she got me a bottle of Absolut vodka for my birthday and I stashed it in my dads drinks cabinet because I didn't want it.
It wasn't til she phoned a week later and asked if I liked the vanilla vodka that i realised it was something different from normal vodka and straight away I went and did myself a glass because I love the taste of vanilla.
I had my first one with lemonade to soften the vodka up a bit and it was delish. The vanilla flavour is loads stronger than I thought it would be and it does take the strength out of the vodka a lot and makes it a bit like a soft drink even though it still has a kick from the vodka.
This is a proper sweet drink and I even managed to drink a glass neat with ice even though the first couple of sips made me heave a bit, my dad laughed and called me a light weight when he saw that but then I told him that at his age he could drink straight meths and he didn't think it was so funny!
It's nice with coke as well but that did take some of the flavour of the vanilla off a bit and that was a shame because that's the main idea of this drink. I reckon it would have been wicked with that vanilla coke they used to sell but I haven't seen this for ages now so I don't know if it's still available in the shops.
I got a wicked recipe for Absolut vanilla vodka from The Drink Stop and that is to make a cheesecake flavour drink using raspberries and crumbled up digestives. I'll give you the recipe at the end of the review.
This vodka has got 40% alcohol but because it's so nice and sweet it tastes loads more mellow than that and is very easy to drink. It has a proper clean and refreshing taste that is delicious and makes my mouth water every time I think about it.
CHEESECAKE DESIRE COCKTAIL
6 fresh raspberries
2 shots of Absolut Vanilla Vodka
1 shot raspberry liqueur (I brought Bols but any will do I think)
2 dessert spoons mascarpone cheese
Few drops of vanilla essense
1 shot natural yogurt
1/2 shot golden syrup
1/2 teaspoon fresh lemon zest
Digestive biscuits
Put the raspberries into a cocktail shaker and squish them down a bit with the back of a fork but not too much.
Add the rest of the ingredients and shake it well with some crushed ice.
Pour it into a glass and sprinkle some crushed up digestives on the top.
(Recipe from www.thedrinkshop.com but has been tweaked a bit by me)
