I always associate advocaat with Christmas as this is usually the only time that it gets drunk at our house. Warninks is one of the biggest producers of advocaat and they use an estimated 60 million egg yolks a year. The commercial drink is made from grape spirit, sugar, vanilla and usually an emulsifying agent. Advocaat originates in Holland although the idea for the drink is believed to have originated in Dutch Brazilian settlements where planters fermented a drink made from the fruit of the Avocado tree. When the planters returned home they were no longer able to use avocados so they changed the original name of the drink to advocaat and used eggs for the ... Read the complete review

No, I don't know what it means either..but Advocaat is apparently basically egg nog with a dash of some sort of alcohol. People seem to love it or hate it or associate it with granny's drinks cupboard! Personally I have phases of liking it. It comes in a standard size bottle (75cl) for about £6 and is instantly recognisable by it's somewhat egg-yolky yellow colour - I've only ever seen it made by Warninks although there may well be some supermarket brands out there. The bottle has a 'classic' label which hasn't changed for as long as I can remember! It is a very thick looking, slow pouring, somewhat unappealing in appearance drink ... Read the complete review

Christmas is not the same for me without my usual tot (or two) of dutch advocaat, I always buy warninks now as other cheeper brands for me just dont have the same quality taste. When I was younger my mum introduced me to this drink and I loved it. Its not a strong drink so you can drink quite a lot of it and has no ill effect. I felt so posh and grown up when I had the cherry on a stick with it. I make up the drink by pouring a small amount of advocaat in a glass first then adding lemonade to it, I always find you need to stir it with a spoon or you end up with a watery liquid on top and a thick heavy mixture at the bottom. Then comes the cherry on ... Read the complete review

Well, this is going to be a rather short but sweet opinion. But theres not much you can say about such a DISGUSTING liquid. The one thing about it that makes it so disgusting is that it contains RAW EGG, so dont drink it if you're pregnant (or dislike raw egg for that matter!) The egg makes it smell awful as well. The last time I smelt it when my friend was drinking it I heaved! The consistency of it is like thick cream - EW YUK! Even thinking about it getting in my mouth right now is making me sick! It is quite a sweet drink, and the egg does overpower it - people usually disguise this by making "Snowballs". Snowballs are basically ... Read the complete review

I have only ever had this drink once and that was enough. A friend of mine thought this was the best drink ever and offered it to me one christmas. I thought I might as well try in and took a big glass of it. I wish I hadn't. It was terrible. It is made with eggs. That would put anyone off. It is quite thick and syrup like. It also has a smell which would probably put you off. I don't think alcohol and raw eggs mix! There isn't a lot of alcohol in it, maybe about 15% but i'm not sure. When I drank it I couldn't taste any alcohol in it. It is about £12 for a 70cl bottle. It is not worth it and I would like ... Read the complete review
