Advantages: Makes a lovely snowball
Disadvantages: Not very versatile?
No, I don't know what it means either..but Advocaat is apparently basically egg nog with a dash of some sort of alcohol. People seem to love it or hate it or associate it with granny's drinks cupboard! Personally I have phases of liking it. It comes in a standard size bottle (75cl) for about £6 and is instantly recognisable by it's somewhat egg-yolky yellow colour - I've only ever seen it made by Warninks although there may well be some supermarket brands out there. The bottle has a 'classic' label which hasn't changed for as long as I can remember! It is a very thick looking, slow pouring, somewhat unappealing in appearance drink but if, like me, you have a penchant for Snowballs, you'll like it! Ah yes! Snowballs, sickly but very drinkable, especially for "the ladies". This drink consists of a measure of Advocaat, a dash of lime and a liberal measure of lemonade usually decorated (in a good pub!) with a few cherries and a slice of orange or lemon on a cocktail stick. A drink which is expensive, sticky, delicious and bar stewards hate making it (I know from experience!) If, for home use, you're not so adventurous this drink is nice just mixed with lemonade or even neat with some ice - though it is very sweet and sickly and large amounts may induce nausea! Other than the classic Snowball and drinking it neat I know of no other cocktails/drinks which include the virulent Advocaat! A bottle seems to have a very long shelf life, so, if like me, you only tend to have the occasional Snowball around Christmas it won't be wasted. Maybe you might like to experiment with it? Or just look at it in amazement?! Either way I recommend you try it at least once!

- 07/11/01 Good opinion. It was amazing how many people wanted snowballs when I worked in the bar in Cyprus! I always thought they were an old fashioned drink until I was over there!
