Advantages: Different, Widely used in new cocktails , Two unique flavours
Disadvantages: Expensive
What can I say? My first experience with one of the latest sensations to hit the partygoer’s scene just happened this weekend. As is the norm, amongst our group of friends, whenever any of us have a party at home the first thing you do or get when you walk through the door is to drink a shooter of some sort. Sometimes it’s that awful Tequila, sometimes Sambuca (one of my favourites that always gets me plastered) etc. I’m sure you get the jist. Well this time it was Aftershock. One knockback (shoot) was all it took to get me to say, “Wow what was that”. I just loved it. Naturally I was inquisitive and got my friend to show me the bottle. One of the novelties of Aftershock, other than the drink itself, is the bottle. Its frosted exterior and silver cap adds to its appeal but what really strikes your attention is the colour of the drink itself. Aftershock comes in two flavours. One is Cinnamon flavoured and boasts a shocking red colour. The other is Peppermint flavoured and boasts a sky blue colour. Both of these have there own unique taste. The Cinnamon type tastes like, as the name suggests, Cinnamon (silly). This was the type that I first had at my friends place. The drink is so different from any other. How many cinnamon flavoured drinks can you find out there today. Further this thing packs a punch, not only in alcoholic levels but also in the peppery spicy taste it possesses. This is probably one of the reasons for it’s huge popularity - its so different from the norm and certainly not what you would expect, especially if you’re having it for the first time. The Peppermint flavour again has its own unique mouth wash flavoured taste. Again the pepperish element is highly pronounced but not as much as the cinnamon one. Personally I prefer the Cinnamon type primarily due to its mind-boggling taste and originality. Plus I love the extra spicy taste. <
br>Aftershock must be had as a shooter in order to fully experience the taste, in one gulp. It’s also got to be really cold and over ice. However as with something new and especially something with such a prominent taste, barmen/women the world over rub their hands in glee at the possibilities of concocting awesome new cocktails. Aftershock is no different and after a brief search on the Internet I was startled to find an awesome selection of cocktails that I have never ever heard of in my life. The sample list of some of the names you might expect would be: Afterburner #1, Afterlanche, Aqua Fresh, Beam Scream, Chocolate Shock, Dead Grasshopper, Dr Shocker, Dragons Blood, Drool, Dumbf--k (censored), Flamethrower, Flaming Cocaine, Guillotine, Hurts You Right Here!, M.C. Afterf--k (censored), Mountain F--k, Napalm, Photon Torpedo, Poison Ivy, Porky Bone, Rum Bubble, Slurpin’ the Goooe, Soapy Bits, Straight Jacket, StumbleF--k, Suburban Warhead, Suicide Stop Light, Swift Kick in The Ass (title of my op), Tainted Heart, The Sob an many more. They come in the regular 70cl bottles and contain a whopping 40% alcohol by volume. This is strong for a shooter. I haven’t bought one personally but the price range is between £20.00 to £25.00 a bottle. This is certainly expensive but then again how many times do you have a party and where on earth can you find a drink that tastes so different. Finally I must say that this is a wonderful and unique drink to be had in the party atmosphere or on weekends when you’re out drinking and having fun. It is not a drink that you would want to have on a very regular basis. Rather a once every two weeks sort of drink in order to maintain it’s excitement and uniqueness. So if you want to be shock your taste buds you have to try Aftershock.

- 17/01/03 Great op!
Ahh, I have fond (but fuzzy) memories of sitting in Weatherspoons with a group of fiends. There was some 'special' offer on and at the end of the night we ended up with two stacks of shot glasses of about arms length. Surprised I can remember that.... |
