I have been meaning to write a review of Aftershock for the past few weeks but, as I take all my reviews so seriously, I just had to try it out several times to ensure that I was able to write an accurate and comprehensive review. So at the weekend, I decided that I would try out a good few and finally get around to writing this even though my head is still aching and I just can't seem to get my hands coordinated to type!! For those of you who don't know much about Aftershock, it is a strong alcoholic beverage which you drink as a shot and down it in one. It comes in three flavours Red, Blue and Green. Each flavour has it's own unique characteristics and are supposed to tell a lot about the person that drinks them. ~~~~~~~~~~ Red - if you drink this then you're supposed to have a Raunchy Side. It has a strong cinnamon taste and I can assure you that it is hot and it burns!! To be honest, this one is my favourite and I can now drink it quite easily as I love the taste of cinnamon. Blue - those that drink this one have a Cheeky Side to them. It is also known as the 'cool' version of Aftershock because when you drink it, it doesn't burn as much as the Red. It does have a cinnamon/aniseed taste but reminds me a bit of mouthwash and I'm not a big fan of it. Green - this is the newest addition to the Aftershock range and is for those who have a Wild Side. I have to admit that it is my least favourite as it looks, smells and tastes like cough medicine - I personally avoid it. ~~~~~~~~~~ Now there are two different ways of drinking Aftershock - the first is detailed on the official website www.shockingtimes.com and is: Store at zero degrees Serve in a shot glass Take it in one Take a deep breath... ...then exhale This way of drinking them is really easy and the deep breath and exhale part is crucial for the "Aftershock Effect"! <
br> The other way is, rather than downing the drink in one, you hold it in your mouth for as long as possible - usually 20-30 seconds. Be warned, this is difficult to do with the Red one as it stings the roof of your mouth, gums and tongue! Then it burns all the way down when you swallow it...Not my fav way of drinking them but great for drinking games and challenges. As for alcohol content? Well each of these little shots are 40% proof (although a friendly barman once told me they were nearer 50%). Hence why you don't get very much for your £2.50 - which I believe is the average price you would expect to pay in a pub for them. Incidentally a full bottle of the stuff will set you back about £20 if you were to buy it in a shop. So you can see that it is going to work out pretty expensive if you are a regular Aftershock drinker as you would normally buy it along with your usual drink rather than instead of it. As my fav tipple is Smirnoff Ice, it costs me £5-6 for both - just for one person!! But, hey, it's worth it and although I don't get drunk very easily, Aftershock goes right to my head (heehee!!) I am currently Queen Of The Aftershock in that I have beaten all my mates in our little Aftershock challenges which usually consist of 'who can drink the most without feeling sick'. As I actually like the taste of the Red one then I seem to always win and it is a good way of getting people to buy them for you. OK so that's a bit irresponsible as I know the damages of drinking in excess, so below is the responsible part of my review. ~~~~~~~~~~ You should drink in moderation. No more than a few units should be taken each day. Don't store up your units for a drinking binge at the weekend. Do not let anyone coerce you into drinking something you don't want. Never drink on an empty stomach. Never leave your drink unattended. Too much alcohol can cause liver dama
ge. ~~~~~~~~~~ Now back to the fun! Courtesy of the Aftershock website and my friendly barman at Underworld in Glasgow, here are a few recipes for all you Aftershockers: Loved Up Hot Blooded After Shock Red, caressed with passion fruit liqueur and the crunch of fresh apple juice. Composition: 10ml After Shock Red, 10ml Passoa, 5ml Apple juice After You After Shock Blue, white creme de cacao and a cool breath of peppermint liqueur. Composition: 10ml After Shock Green,10ml Creme de Cassis, 5ml fresh Pineapple juice ~~~~~~~~~~ So that's the wonders of Aftershock. And as different flavours reflect your personality then I guess all you guys out there better watch out as I?m a fan of the Red one...
