Advantages: A great substitute for a milkshake and cheap!

Disadvantages: Very small

I have been lactose intolerant for seven years and many places do not supply readymade milkshakes that have no dairy within them. This is very frustrating for someone who used to love a nice large milkshake as a child from a takeaway, or as refreshment whilst on a shopping trip in town.

At home wanting a milkshake is not so much of an issue. All it requires is some instant milkshake powder along with some soya or rice milk, either that or some fresh fruit with the latter in a blender. While this is all well and good, this does not solve the craving for a milkshake when outside.

This is why I am thankful for the Alpro Soya Banana Shake. While it is small it does the job. I first discovered this product at university in the campus shop. The small carton was reasonably priced at a mere sixty pence. While it only contained a few mouthfuls I was grateful as at least there was an alternative, even if it was the size you would expect to see in a pre-schoolers lunchbox. The shake is nice and works well especially in a banana flavour.

Despite being pleased with this products taste I was disappointed at the size. I cannot seem to find the Alpro Strawberry or Banana Shake in any decent size just in tiny cartons, whether it is in a supermarket or a corner shop. This is a disappointment as it is not only children that drink milkshakes.

There are coffee shops that do sell milkshakes of a soya variety but it is as if I am being punished for being lactose intolerant, as they boost the price of a regular milkshake by a pound or more. Even though it is organic soya milk I feel as if I am being conned out of my money. Due to this I feel that there should be decent sized, reasonable priced soya milkshakes available in the various supermarkets.

Summary: A great and cheap alternative to a milkshake but it does lack in size
