Alpro Soya Original Milk

Being lactose intolerant has meant that I have tried and tasted a lot of alternatives to regular cow's milk, some I really like and others are not so nice. One of my favourites, especially for breakfast cereal is Alpro soya original.

This Alpro soya milk is a made from a blend of soya beans mixed with water and fortified with added vitamins and calcium. Particularly, it is important to make sure that you get enough calcium if you don't eat that much dairy product and this goes a long way in helping me to reach my daily recommend amount.

Initially, when you pour this into a glass you will notice that it is quite a milk like consistency and a slightly creamier than white colour. However, it pretty much looks the same as a glass of milk. I have also used this soya milk to make pancakes and some other desserts, it is a really nice substitute that will work well in a lot of cases.

There is a light version of this soya milk available, which has a much more unsweetened taste and is itself very nice, it is worth trying if you want to cut down on some extra calories or just prefer a less sweet taste. For a typical 200 ml serving of this you are only 76 calories.

One word of warning. Soya milk can be a bit temperamental if you are adding this into hot tea or milk, it has a tendency to split, which doesn't look very appealing. It is possible to heat it up you just have to be more careful with it and don't add it directly to boiling water. My local Costa tend to use this Alpro soya milk, I tend to leave it up to them and I only really have a soya milky coffee when I am out.

A litre carton of this, which can be found beside the milk in the majority of supermarkets, is typically priced around £1.35. Again this is more expensive than regular cow's milk, but it does offer something different and suitable for everyone including vegans, vegetarians or people like me that can't drink cow's milk.

This soya milk is also available in a long life form and personally I don't like that near as much as this fresh short life variety.

This gets a full five out of five stars from me. I really like this and I would recommend giving it a try, personally, I find that this is especially nice when eaten with breakfast cereal. Even if you do drink milk it is still worth giving this a try, it might give you a pleasant alternative.

Summary: Five out of five stars
