I have described Amaretto as "like drinking a cake" before, because it tastes exactly like Marzipan! This is one of my favourite liquers, and one of my favourite "high volume" alcoholic drinks without a doubt - it tastes far better than most of them, and makes a great mixer too (as long as you pick the right drink!). It's one of the few that's also tasty neat too, and there's no horrible aftertaste after necking a shot like there is with so many other spirits and liquers.

With quality comes a price tag, and Amaretto generally isn't cheap stuff, but recently I did find it on offer in Tesco for £9.70, which I thought was an absolute steal. You may not get quite as much liquid in the container as you would in Vodka, but it tastes so much nicer and is more rich and soothing as it slides down your throat. For anyone that ever liked Battenberg, this is the drink for you.

I've mixed it with both coke and lemonade and had some very impressive coke - the lemonade seems to more dillute it than really mix with it, so I most often have it with coke, which mixes to give a very odd but extremely pleasant taste that I would approximate as something resembling Cherry Coke or Dr. Pepper. Amaretto is one of those drinks that strangely isn't that popular, perhaps because it's quite expensive to order on nights out. However, it tastes absolutely lovely and I've never heard anyone complain about the taste - why would they? It's like drinking a cake!
