Anchor Steam Ale ... on the West Coast of America under primitive conditions and without ice. The brewing methods of those days are a mystery and, although there are many theories, no one can say with certainty why the word "steam" came to be associated with beer. It certainly carries a good full body as well as a nice blend of flavors. Hoppy, malty, fruity, dry. A must try. One warning is that I have found a great deal of difference between the bottled version and that sold on tap. I would recommend the bottled offering over the draught as the draught tended to have skunky undertones. ...more

A better than average American beer. Anchor Steam Ale provides a full, malty and rich flavor with a little fizz and near perfect balance. A very refreshing hops note at the end. The malty initial taste, balanced with the hops note & bitterness give this beer a taste reminiscent of an Ordinary Bitter(and a good one, at that).
