Advantages: DELICIOUS, REFRESHING, GOOD VALUE
Disadvantages: NOT READILY AVAILABLE
It was for a family lunch get-together that my partner recently purchased this bottle of fruity fizz for me. It goes by the name of "Archers Aqua" and is raspberry flavoured. The label states that it has 5% alcohol.
Archers "Aqua" drinks are a type of drink from the "Alco-pop" genre. They were first released around four years ago I think, but the original flavours have long since vanished from our shop shelves. The original flavours were: Cranberry, Peach, Lime and another which I can't remember! The only flavours that are available today (in this neck of the woods at least) are Peach or Raspberry. Both of these flavours are available in smaller bottles as well as larger bottles. The bottle that my other half bought for me was the larger size (sorry I don't know the exact volume!).
Upon opening the bottle (which had a screw top cap, and so was very convenient to open and store) I was immediately aware of the sickly sweet aroma of the raspberry flavouring. This wasn't off-putting to me in the slightest and I greedily set about pouring myself a generous glass of the fizzy liquid.
The liquid is clear-coloured in appearance and resembles lemonade until you get a whiff of it! The smell is rather strong and very distinctive, although not unpleasant.
Upon taking a sip of the drink I was again aware of the scent of the raspberry flavouring and this was followed soon-after by the taste, which was very sweet. It would probably be overly-sweet for a lot of people, but as I have the biggest sweet tooth in history I enjoyed every mouthful and ended up drinking the rest of the bottle. (Oops!)
The bottle cost £2.79, the size of which I can only describe as a bit smaller than a bottle of wine. If you are aware of the large bottles of beer that are available on the market at the moment, (Budweiser, Becks etc), I'd estimate that the bottle of Archers Aqua was on a par with the size of those. Sorry I can't be more specific.
I'd definitely recommend trying the Archers Aqua, but only if you like very sweet, fizzy, fruit-flavoured Alco-pops. Otherwise, I doubt you would enjoy it.
I'll definitely buy it again. I just wish it was more readily available! My other half got it for me from the local off license but he insists he has seen it for sale in our local Tesco, although I'm unconvinced. I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for it the next time I'm there!
For best results I'd recommend pouring it over a few cubes of ice... it just seems to compliment the flavour better if it is served this way. It's not the sort of drink that should be served lukewarm!
This is the way I serve it, and I find that it is always quite refreshing. I particularly enjoy drinking it on a warm evening whilst sitting outside with my other half.
Yummy! Five stars and full marks from me! :- )
Summary: Delicious fruity alcoholic drink.......... if you can find it!
