Advantages: arresting flavour, not coloured or filtered, beautiful bottle
Disadvantages: too "exciting" for some tastes?, you'll never go back to cheap whisky!
If you think that all whisky is the same, do yourself a favour and try a bottle of this wonderfully snappy Islay single malt. At last, it's becoming widely available in supermarkets, after being a wel-kept secret for many years. The makers make big claims for it, describing it as "...the best whisky in the world" - but they might just have a point. If you like your whisky soft and mellow, you should buy something else, but if you're already a fan of peaty malts like Laphroaig or Lagavulin, or simply want to try something more complex and challenging, you won't be disappointed. It's stronger than most malts, bottled at 46%, and I'd recommend you start off by adding a little water to it, just to bring out the flavour and take off some of the alcohol burn. It's not the cheapest bottle on the supermarket shelf, but not over-priced in the context of the single malt market - and you'll be getting what I think is one of the finest drinks in the world for your money. Slainte!

- 03/08/02 Yes, one of Scotland's finest. Lowland malt Glenkinchie for the virgins; Talisker for the more mature; Islay Malts for the alcohol-pickled like me. |

- 03/08/02 Not a whiskey/whisky drinker me. Mr Fishbulb's quite partial to a single malt, but prefers them less peaty than this sounds.
