Advantages: price and good taste

Disadvantages: could have more kick

The idea of drinking milk takes us back to the days of childhood where you had milk at playschool or in the infants. To this day I still enjoy milkshakes and I consider myself to be somewhat of a milk connoisseur. I have sampled Yazoos, Nesquik and Krush milkshakes and enjoyed them all, so I wondered how the Asda milkshake mix might compare in the stakes.

You can buy several flavours, the one I had was chocolate. You get a generous sized tub for your one pound twenty, a tub of over 300 grammes which looks like it could last a good month or two if one dipped into it everyday. One accesses the mix by peeling off the protective topping then exposing the powder. It is rather like dust and it has a cocoa like whiff to it which is subtle enough to make your nose perk up and take attention.

The powder must be added to milk to make it dilute. On first attempt I used two heaped teaspooonfuls to a pint and then found this to be very wea. I upped the dose to four and this cut through with more conviction. The chocolate taste was pleasant without being overly creamy and also not too bitter. While it could have been a bit more creamy I reckon, the powder was on a par with the taste that on gets from Nesquik, so in this respect it met my expectations. I also like the fact that it comes fortified with vitamins, as this gives you a naughty excuse to have a glass of this a day!

A light and refreshing milkshake mix that will please kids, though for me it could have had a twist, like a minty aftertaste or maybe a dark chocolate aroma to give it some oomph.

Summary: pleasing mixture
