“ Manufacturer: Asda / Type: Energy Drink „
I thought I had wrote about this drink - clearly not! Anyway I pick up a can of this now and again and I would say I drink this more often since they seemed to have changed the flavouring of the normal Blue Charge drink as i'm not as keen on the taste of it now.
You can get this in a 250ml can and a 1 litre bottle. The 250ml tin sells for about 45p thesedays, but it used to be cheaper before. In my local Asda you can buy the normal Blue Charge and Diet Blue Charge in a 6 pack multipack, but not sure if this flavouring comes in the Multipack - well I haven't spotted it in my branch anyway.
So the tin is a slim tin which stands a bit tall. It is just in the same shape tin as all the other energy drinks out there (well the 250ml ones). You can tell this one is the Cranberry one due to the light red colouring on the tin.
So how does this taste? It is nice. You get the taste from the Energy drink which is a nice taste but the taste of Cranberry is apparent through the drink. It is a little sweet but not too sweet and there is a kind of gritty taste through this, but not in a bad way - it's just a earthy kind of taste but I feel that i'm making this sound a bad taste, but if you have every drank Cranberry Juice on it's own then you will know the kind of taste that I am meaning. There isn't that much fizz through this and when I first tried this drink then I wondered if the tin had been shook up but every tin i've had has this little bit of Fizz.
Per 100ml this has 4 calories so not bad if you are trying to watch your calories. Not the best in the calorie stake, but not that bad either.
This is a nice Energy drink and the little twist of Cranberry makes this that bit different than the rest out there.
On my latest quest for a lunch time energy drink I spotted that the Asda blue charge range also do a diet cranberry flavour. This is the first time I have ever seen a flavoured 'red bull' style energy drink before and was eager to try it especially as it was diet too.
The drink comes in 250ml can and cost just £0.25, this is the same price as the other blue charge cans and to me is excellent value as energy drinks can be rather expensive.
The can itself is red, obviously to reflect the cranberry flavour and has the picture of a rhino's head on the front. It states that the energy drink is an improved recipe and part of the Asda chosen by you range.
The nutritional information for the can is:
Calories - 10
Protein - trace
Carbohydrate - 0.5
Fat - nill
The drink also has added vitamins and minerals which I was quite surprised to see for an energy drink. The drink is also suitable for vegetarians.
Many people drink coffee for a caffeine boost but I cannot stand the taste of coffee so for an alertness boost I opt for energy drinks instead. This cranberry blue charge contains Taurine and caffeine.
I was fairly impressed by this energy drink, it did not really taste anything like the normal blue charge. It is a slightly pink colour and has a slight cranberry flavour, to be honest it would have been nice to see a higher content of cranberry juice as this only amounts for 2% of the entire drink. But it does have quite a fruity and pleasant flavour and is not too sweet. I did find that it has the same effect as the normal blue charge and made me feel more awake and alert after drinking. Overall I did find this drink rather nice and it did make a change from the usual tasting energy drinks and I would certainly buy it again for a change.
Although I love this drink, I will only be giving it two stars. You will find out if you read on.
Blue charge comes in original flavour, diet original or diet Cranberry. All flavour and diet variations come in bottles and cans. The bottle is 1 litre for 86p and the can is 250mls for 43p. So it is cheaper to get the bottles but I find the can to just be enough to quench my thirst. Also, the bottles tend to be on a "2 for £1.50" deal quite a lot, bargain! I am reviewing the Diet Cranberry version.
The cranberry cans have recently changed design and are now the majority red with silver detailing, it used to be the other way round. The liquid itself is a pale pinky colour. It smells fruity, you wouldn't necessarily pick out that it was cranberry until you taste it.
On tasting, this drink is not too gassy at all. There is a fizz there but not enough to take your tastebuds off like some other canned drinks I have had. The cranberry taste comes out nicely, and even though it is a diet drink with sweetners, it doesnt taste too fake at all. There are no after tastes either which you get with some diet drinks, just the nice cranberry taste.
I could drink a can of this every day as I enjoy the taste, it is cheap (I get this cheaper than the shops as I work in an Asda warehouse) and certainly quenches my thirst, even with it being a smaller can. The only issues I have, and I suppose it is a HUGE issue for anyone wanting a pick me up, it does not affect my energy levels whatsoever. I'm not sure if its a personal thing, it being a diet drink so not as much sugar or what. I really can't pinpoint it.
A while ago I was ridiculously tired after staying awake 24 hours to raise money for a charity, not really thinking ahead I'd arranged a party the next day at my house! So when I was out getting the food for it I spotted this at asda and thought that it would be a good idea since I was so tired and the cranberry flavour appealed to me rather than just the normal energy drink flavour so I threw a can in the basket!
The packaging is quite simple as you may expect from an Asda own brand product. In similar style to red bull cans which it is imitating, it is a slim silver can with blue and red writing on, the red to show the cranberry flavour I'd assume! You can purchase it in either a 250ml can (smaller than the average can by about 75ml) or a 500ml bottle.
But does it actually work. Well, as a drink it's not too bad but it's not great either in my opinion, the flavours don't really come out very well, I could taste the cranberry a bit although it tasted very artificial but I couldn't taste whatever the other flavour was supposed to be! However it is quite refreshing and if it didn't do anything else it did quench my thirst! It didn't make any affect on my energy levels though so was quite a waste for 24p! I wouldn't recommend it, the full sugar version will probably be better.
Loving my energy drinks as I do I was a little excited when I saw not only could I buy a low calorie option of my favourite drink but also I was so interested in Cranberry flavouring for a change!
Available in a 500ml silver bottle or 250ml can. I have the can in front of me now but basically information and colour scheme wise whether it be the bottle or the can you choose they look pretty much the same and contain the same information!
So the can is silver and burgundy in colour. On the front in white, dark blue and burgundy writing I'm told it is Asda 'Diet' Cranberry, Blue Charge, High Impact Stimulation Drink which contains Taurine and there is a blue scribbly drawing of a rhino on there and I'm told it an Asda brand that contains no artificial colours or flavours and that it is suitable for Vegetarians. On the back of the can I'm told a bit about the drink, ingredients are listed and storage instructions are there, the best before date is clearly stamped on, size is stated, nutritional information is listed, the recycle symbol is displayed and finally contact details for Asda are given and the bar-code is displayed.
A Bit About The Drink According To The Back Of The Can....
Carbonated low calorie cranberry flavour drink with added taurine, caffeine and vitamins, with sweeteners. High caffeine content (30mg/100ml).
The Drink Itself....
A light raspberry colour, fizzy enough though not overly bubbly it is reasonably sweet though doesn't taste full of sweeteners it really doesn't taste of much really though it's just a light drink. It's doesn't smell or taste particularly of cranberries at all though and it really is quite watery in texture and taste and although refreshing enough to drink (due to it be rather like water) the only real benefit of this is that unlike alot of other energy drinks I have drank in the past it doesn't leave any nasty taste (or any taste actually at all after-wards either!).
Does It Stimulate And/Or Boost Energy Levels...
Not for me no, not at all. It's an ok drink but that's as far as it goes really lol.
This is a little reminiscent of fruit and is simply ok but can't be referred to as a tasty drink because of it's lack of flavour. It goes flat rather quickly (almost as soon as it is poured) but it is light and does help thirst of course!
