Advantages: leaves very little mess in cup, tastes great

Disadvantages: no local store

Asda’s hot drink Cappuccino comes in a box of 132g, which costs £1.46, and contains 10 sachets of cappuccino mix and 10 sachets of chocolate flavoured topping.

This cappuccino is rather creamy with a very frothy top. Unlike the Nescafe tube, the sachets of chocolate topping do not spread evenly as they are in large gold sachets, which do not tear easily, and the topping can stick to the sides of the sachet. However, they are easier to use than the Sainsbury’s or Tesco’s versions. There is a lot more chocolate than these 2 versions and unlike these versions does not slowly sink rather than float but it does make a mess of the mug or cup being used.

The ingredients state the flavourings and if there are any e numbers to avoid. The box also states that it is Gluten Free (a highly useful factor for my father, who suffers from dermatitis herpeteformis and is on a gluten free diet) that there are no colours or preservatives and that it contains Lactose, a natural sugar occurring in milk.

This drink does not state that it is suitable for vegetarians but looking closer at the contents of the ingredients it is more suitable for diabetics or those on a diet as the highest ingredient is not Sugar – in fact Sugar is not listed as an ingredient at all - there is only Lactose which is a form of sugar.

It is highly recommended that you store this in a cool, dry place – as the box and the sachets are only made of paper this could get damp easily and spoil the drink.

The preparation guidelines are easy to understand i.e. Empty sachet of cappuccino mix contents into a mug, add 125ml of hot, not boiling, water while stirring. Sprinkle the topping onto the froth. Add Sugar if required.

This item is produced in Germany for Asda Stores Ltd, Leeds, LS11 5AD.

I would recommend this drink, as I prefer it to the Nescafe version because:
1. Asda has a better, tastier chocolate topping which according to my boss was “ an inch thick”.
2. The cappuccino is very creamy and almost as tasty as an Italian one!
3. Does not make as much mess in the mug

This is priced at £1.46 at Asda and each serving is 54 calories, which has 2g of fats none of which are saturated fats and a trace of fibre and sodium (salt).

Unfortunately for me, my nearest Asda is at Derby about 25 miles from home so I will not be getting this very often (only if someone from work goes for me or we get it for work again).
