Advantages: cheaper, tastes the same and does what it says on the tin.
Disadvantages: none
My daughter often goes away to tournaments to fight and because she uses a lot of energy, as well as making her eat a lot and prepare to fight, she likes to drink an energy drink for a boost to help her fight better and keep stamina. I've bought red bull before, but at around £1.20 a can, I'm not too happy about the price.
I was in ASDA a few nights before a tournament and asked if she wanted a sports drink for it and we were looking and I picked this up. It is in a similar can to red bull except the colour is silver and red not silver and blue. It looked very similar, but when I looked at the prices it didn't. A 250ml can of red bull in ASDA is £1 but a 250ml can of this in ASDA costs just 33p, so you can buy three of them for less than the price of one red bull.
I decided to give it a try, and sent my daughter off with two in her bag for the tournament and I tried one myself. It has a kind of mixed fruit carbonated taste which is nice, but I find it a little tangy, not really my sort of drink. It did give me some energy after a little while of finishing the can, I felt a little more awake and had more energy in general. I think I felt better for about an hour and then I started to feel pretty worn out again, but I am running around after a two year old child and an 11 week old puppy all day, so thats probably why.
My daughter said she really liked the drink and agreed that it tasted a little tangy and just like red bull. She said she felt quite hyper after having two of them one after the other. I guessed that it might have had more effect on her because she is considerably smaller than me, so maybe that was why. She said that she felt a lot more energised and had a good amount of energy when fighting. She said she felt quite hyper for about half hour.
Overall, this is definitely worth the money. It's a lot cheaper than red bull but it does exactly the same job, tastes the same and almost looks the same. I wouldn't pay the extra for red bull again, this is certainly enough to give you wings.
Summary: A great energy drink.

- 27/06/09 Fascinated by your daughter going off to fight! Boxing? I was wondering if you think it is ok to give to teenagers. You say your daughter is 15 - I am not keen on my 14 year old drinking Red Bull as it has had a few health implications. How did you find the Emerge? |
