Advantages: Great taste, stays fresh for 3 days and it's cheap!
Disadvantages: Very full of sugar and not so healthy!
When it comes to energy drinks I'm constantly guzzling them lately. I have a real lack of energy (thanks to a newly diagnosed problem of low potassium!) and although as I rule I don't find they do alot for me, I've actually grown to like the taste of them really and see no harm in drinking them though usually I do try to go full a low calorie option of course or I'd grow into the size of a house with the amount of drinks such as this I knock back in a week lol.
I deliberately went to Asda yesterday to stock up on a few cans of energy drinks as I find them cheaper there than anywhere else (shops own) when this bottle of drink caught my eye at 60p for a litre bottle so I decided to give it a go!
The Packaging....
Like I said it's a 1 litre see-through bottle with a bright orange plastic screw on/off cap to the top of it and it has a yellow and blue paper label glued to it's 'tummy'. In white and black writing, on the front I'm told it's Asda Glucose Energy Drink and that it is an Asda brand and contains no artificial colours, flavours or aspartame and that it is suitable for Vegetarians. On the back of the bottle I'm told it is a fruit flavour glucose drink, ingredients, allergy advice, cautions and storage advice are given, along with the best before date being stamped on the neck of the bottle, contact details for Asda are given, size is stated, nutritional advice is given and finally there is a bar-code on there. Nice enough, simple to understand bottle and easy to open and close etc. It doesn't scream cheap or anything like that either which I appreciate!
The Drink....
I am very impressed with this drink indeed. Ok... I'm not sure it lifts energy levels although it contains a whopping 41.0g of sugar per 250ml but flavour wise I really do like it!
In colour it is a bright orange. Open the bottle/pour it, it's fizzy though not overly so. Smell wise, well it smells fruity though believe me I have sniffed and sniffed at this (for the purpose of this review!) and I can't tell what blend of fruits it's meant to be. I looked through the list of ingredients as well and apart from lemon being mentioned there is nothing else. However this doesn't have a lemony, citrusy taste to it at all!
What it does have is a general, light fruity taste, very sweet and quite salty giving a slight sour and tangy taste to the drink actually stopping it being too sweet to drink. However don't be misled it is laden with sugar (and calories) and is rather sweet and for a drink 'thickish'. Think Lucozade and what this is to me is a cheaper version of that but in my view..equally as nice, I really do love it.
As I said earlier I don't believe this gives me a burst of energy at all. You could drink a glass of this and go to bed and go to sleep if your tired enough and therefore you can drink it anytime. However it is a pleasant and refreshing drink and I do appreciate the way it combats thirst and doesn't leave a nasty after-taste and I do suffer with dehydration and this really helps me to stay hydrated so I shall buy this time and time again in the future. It's a bargain price and really worth trying if you like energy drinks. Avoid if on a diet though cos at a hefty 167 Kcal per 250ml (less than a standard can of pop size) it really isn't good for you...or for diabetics so skinny Minnie's only should be guzzling this! lol
Allergy Advice...
