Advantages: A tasty blackcurrant juice.

Disadvantages: Nothing.

Although we drink very little juice I always like to keep a bottle in stock in case of any `little ` visitors. It is a good job that juice has a long sell by date, most of the time a litre bottle will last us a month or more.
I also have to consider the flavour carefully, I want one that suits those little people that visit and one that we don't mind having the odd glass of. Neither of us mind a glass of blackcurrant juice and something always tells me that it may be one of the better drink options for children.

Asda blackcurrant high juice is reasonably priced at £1.17p a litre, once the bottle has been opened then I store it in the fridge to make doubly sure that it stays as fresh as possible for as long as possible.
The one litre plastic bottle of blackcurrant juice is a plain and simple product, the plastic bottle can be recycled and the labelling is straightforward but minimal.
Blackcurrant juices do vary in strength, I was doing one of my Lidl's stints and picked up a bottle of juice to see me through and I wished that I hadn't! Unfortunately their high juice was very weak and I had to use a really good helping of juice before dilution to get any taste at all, which was a bit of a waste of money.
The Asda blackcurrant juice has a deep curranty smell, the juice itself is fairly thick and it has the depth of colour that we associate with blackcurrant juices.
Pour a generous quantity into a glass before you top up with cold water. I say a generous amount because there is nothing worse than having an insipid fruit juice.
You can ring the changes with the Asda High juice, it is lovely served strong and then topped with crushed ice and it is delicious served in a mug and made with boiling water. If anyone is suffering from a cough or a cold then the hot blackcurrant option is very comforting.

Asda have added extra calcium to the high juice, there are no artificial colours or flavours and there is no aspartame. So the blackcurrant high juice promotes healthy skin and bones and is free of the much talked about sweetener aspartame. We all need a good intake of vitamin C and this is one way of ensuring that we get it.

The blackcurrant juice is good for vegetarians too, a mixture of 45% blackcurrant concentrate, sugar, water, glucose and fructose syrup, natural flavourings, Vit C and citric acid. The juice contains two preservatives, potassium sorbate and sodium metabisulphate.
100 mls provides 235 calories and it is reasonably high in sugars.
Out of each bottle you can expect to get about twenty servings.

There may well be some Mum's reading this who would consider the juice to be too sugary or rich for smaller children, my niece is always quite happy for her toddler to have it in small amounts.
Fruit juices can be very misleading, we have juices with no added sugar, but I would think that they maybe contain a small amount of sweetener. Then we have the many small cartons of juice that kids love but are an expensive way forward or we plump for the high juices in smaller amounts.

If you do often buy the Asda blackcurrant high juice then take note, it is on offer, two bottles for £2 right until the end of the year!

Summary: A tasty and refreshing drink.
