Advantages: Tastes great, caffeine free
Disadvantages: Taste can be a bit sharp
I must admit I'm not a huge fan of flavoured teas, and am usually more than satisfied with PG Tips or Tetley, however I do like lemon tea occasionally, so decided to try the lemon fruit infusions tea bags from ASDA.
The teabags come in a yellow cardboard box, and as soon as I opened the cellophane, I was instantly hit with a strong, yet fresh lemon smell. The box opens from the side and the tea bags are all neatly stacked together inside. You get 20 tea bags in a box, which doesn't seem a lot to me, but as someone who doesn't buy these sorts of teas regularly, I'm not sure if perhaps that's the norm? The bags are joined together in pairs, and easily tear down the middle.
Making the tea up is simple. You just need to put the bag in a cup, pour on water and leave for 1 minute. If you like a stronger taste you can leave as long as three minutes, but I find one minute is enough to get a good flavour. You don't add milk to these teas (or at least I wouldn't) but you can add a bit of honey - this would be especially great if you were suffering from a sore throat.
The made up tea is a sort of murky yellow colour and doesn't look particularly appetising, but it does smell amazing. It has a sharp citrussy lemon smell, which is very inviting and actually just the smell of it is very uplifting. It's a bit like when you use a lemon shower gel, the smell is just so zingy it wakes you up and lifts your mood - although I'm sure this tastes better than any shower gel would!
Now speaking of taste, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from this. The only lemon tea I've had in the past has been Lift, which comes in the form of granules, and I wasn't sure if this would taste the same or not. In actual fact it tasted better. The flavour tastes a lot less artificial than Lift does - it's simply a light, fresh taste, and very zingy.
If you don't like sharp or citrussy tastes, I would say this is one to avoid as being lemon, it does have that sharpness to the flavour. Saying that, it's not so sharp it's undrinkable, quite the opposite, this is actually a very refreshing tea and quenches your thirst and feels light to drink - I don't get that heavy, sluggish sort of feeling I do after drinking a standard tea.
Another big plus point for me about these tea bags, is that they are naturally caffeine free. I have been trying my best to avoid caffeine (except in chocolate, because that would just be asking too much!) because it plays havoc with my skin and also seems to give me headaches if I drink too much.
As well as no caffeine there are also no artificial colours or flavourings in this. Lemon tea is also often recommended when detoxing as it is thought to have properties that will cleanse the system, and as mentioned earlier is also good for sore throats because it is a natural anti-septic
A box of 20 tea bags costs 65p from ASDA but they are on an offer (which according to the website lasts until the end of 2009) of 2 for £1 and this includes all varieties of ASDA fruit teas.
Overall I am very impressed with this tea. It tastes great, is very refreshing, and is a way of having a nice hot drink without actually consuming caffeine. Recommended!
Summary: Lovely Lemons!

- 10/05/09 Maybe I will, Maybe I won't (try it!) - but since I'm definitely on my diet from a week Monday when hubby goes to the Congo for nearly a month, I may give it a go thanks to your fab review. :-) |

- 10/05/09 I quite fancy this just from reading about it. I used to love tea with a slice of lemon floating in it. |
